Kelly Clarkson gained popularity after she competed and won the first edition ever of "American Idol" in 2002.
The judges and viewers all over the world were introduced to a new sensation in the music industry and were certain that she was going to be a star.
However, at a young age and with such fame, Clarkson was doubtful that she would make it to the peak of her music career. She disclosed this sudden fear and doubt that gripped her in a recent discussion with Andy Cohen.
Read below for more details.
Clarkson's Early Life
Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas and the last child of three children born to Jeann Ann and Stephen Michael Clarkson.
When she was in the seventh grade at Hughes Middle School, the school's choir instructor heard her singing in the school's hallway. The teacher encouraged her to audition for the school choir, even though she had never been professionally trained.
After High School, Clarkson decided to pursue her music career, however, it did not pan out the way she expected. After a sudden fire, she became homeless and had to return to Burleson to work menial jobs.
Musical Career Prowess
After working as a telemarketer, promoter for Red Bull energy drink, and waitress, Clarkson finally got a headway in her music career.
Her friends encourage her to go for "American Idol," as that would be a stepping stone in the career she wanted badly and even gave up college for.
After a series of competition with several other kids who auditioned for the show, the "Piece By Piece" singer was crowned the first winner on "American Idol." After winning, her dreams came true immediately as Simon Cowell got her deals with three record labels named RCA Records, 19 Recordings and S Records.
Clarkson Had Career Doubts
During a sit-down with Cohen on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," the singer turned show host revealed that after her "American idol" win, she had scary doubts about where her career would go from there.
She went on to say that she had been looking forward to that moment since high school, but when it finally came, she was filled with scary thoughts.
Cohen also asked the singer if she ever envisioned that her career would be this successful and her answer was a big NO! She jokingly said that she always thought she would become the most popular Texas waitress who ever lived.
Marriage, Divorce & Judge Duty
In October 2013, Clarkson got married to Brandon Blackstock, who took over her managerial duties from her previous manager and his father, Narvel Blackstock.
The duo gave birth to two children in 2014 and 2016 respectively, however, in 2020, the couple opted for a dissolution of marriage. According to "USA Today," the court granted the singer primary custody of both kids.
Aside from hosting a personal show, Clarkson also served as a panel on "The Voice" music talent show from its 14th to 20th season.
