Donald Trump's campaign train has a new addition — a rival turned supporter, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The now-former aspiring presidential candidate announced his decision to pause his campaign and pitch his tent behind the Republican candidate, and it seems he is the only Kennedy on this route.
Since the announcement to pause his campaign, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s family has come out to declare they were not on the same page with his newly found support for Trump.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Siblings Issued A Disclaimer Following His Announcement
The Kennedy family did not share in Robert's earlier political endorsement of Trump as he suspended his own presidential plans, and they released a statement to that effect.
In a joint statement, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy declared:
"We want an America filled with hop and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise, and national pride."
The family expressed their belief in Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's vision for America, adding that Robert's decision to endorse Trump was a "betrayal of the value" that their father and family so treasured.
Toofab shared that they described Robert's latest action as a "sad ending to a sad story."
Jack Schlossberg, a grandson of John F. Kennedy and Robert's cousin, tagged the politician a sell-out for choosing to work for Trump, adding that he confirmed his suspicions.
Schlossberg noted on his X page that "Kamala Harris is for the people" and the easiest decision of all time "just got easier."
Robert Suspended His Campaign
The politician made the announcement on Thursday in Arizona, declaring that he no longer believed he had a "realistic path of electoral victory in the face of this relentless, systematic censorship and media control."
He continued that he could not continue to subject his staff and volunteers to long working hours or squeeze more money from his donors, especially when he could not assure them of a clear victory.
However, Robert explained that he was not terminating his campaign but rather suspending it. He added that his name would remain and be reflected on the ballot in most states.
He also disclosed his plan to work towards Trump's victory come November by supporting his ambition.
The Ex-Aspirant's Wife Also Released Her Statement
The politician's wife, actress Cheryl Hines, supported her husband's decision and issued her own statement on X.
"The decision has been made to suspend my husband's, Robert Kennedy Jr.'s, presidency, and I'd like to extend a sincere, deeply heartfelt thank you to every person who has worked so tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign," she declared.
Hines commended the campaign team's efforts so far, noting that they have "gathered over a million signatures, more than any candidate in history."
She also shared that the team has achieved ballot access across the country despite the lawsuits filed to keep Robert's name off the ballot.
"I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity. Over the last year and a half, I have met some extraordinary people from all parties," she wrote, adding, "Democrats, Republicans, and Independents."
Hines declared that most of the parties are "truly good people" who want the best for America and each other. She described the journey so far as "eye-opening, transformative, and endearing."
However, Hines seemingly left out the part where her husband endorsed the former president and candidate of the Republican party in her statement.
Robert Previously Challenged Donald Trump To A Debate
The politician's decision marked a 180-degree turn in his political journey, as he was not very cordial with Trump just three months ago. Back in May, TMZ reported that he challenged the business mogul to a head-to-head debate at the Libertarian National Convention.
Trump refused to honor the invitation; instead, he took to Truth Social, his own social media platform, to describe Robert as a "Democrat Plant" and a "Radical Left Liberal."
Robert tried again in June to appear on a debate stage with Trump and President Joe Biden. But his plan was foiled as Biden announced a few weeks later that he was stepping down for Harris.
Despite Trump's allegation against Robert, his team declared that his campaign was "independent of the broken two-party system and the corporate corruption" of the government.
Robert focused on trending issues like foreign interventions, the environment, America's southern border, and middle-class concerns.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Promoted A Fitness Challenge In His Campaign
The 70-year-old's grouse with his political rivals did not end with debate challenges and shady comments at campaign venues.
The Blast shared that Robert teamed up with a wellness project in January called the AmericaMoves challenge to douse any concerns about his physical and mental abilities.
Robert's physical regimen inspired the project and came amid questions surrounding Trump and Biden's physical and mental fitness in the 2024 elections.
Trump and Biden have had their fair share of scrutiny in that department, as the former was called out for using Nikki Haley's name in place of Nancy Pelosi at a New Hampshire rally.
Biden was also attacked for always falling or tripping at public events and for the controversial fall he suffered while boarding Air Force One.
Robert attempted to capitalize on the trending topic at that time and get a reaction from either or both of the candidates, but his move was ignored by the duo.
Will Robert F. Kennedy's endorsement create any momentum in Trump's campaign?
