Melissa Gorga and her husband, Joe Gorga, went through hard times in 2020 as they filmed the 11th season of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." But, because they wanted to be authentic with viewers, they didn't hide their marital strife from the cameras.
During an interview on Access Hollywood's "Housewives Nightcap," Melissa explained why she decided to share everything with her audience, despite some initial embarrassment.
"I was embarrassed at first that we had this argument on camera and we’re showing that we’re suffering but at the same time, we’re not perfect and it’s okay," she explained.
Melissa Gorga Didn't Mind Going Through Ups And Downs On 'RHONJ'
"I don’t mind showing that we’re really in a rut. Do couples go through ups and downs? Yes. And this is definitely the lowest we’ve ever been and it shows," she explained.
While Melissa and Joe struggled to get on the same page in regard to their thought on their future on "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," Melissa explained that it should have been expected that Joe wouldn't be comfortable expanding upon her life outside of their home.
“I’ve been with Joe since I’m 24. That’s really young. And you do change as a woman from 24 to 40. You change. You do," Melissa said.
Joe Gorga Is Impacted By Melissa Gorga's Busy Schedule
As for whether or not she and Joe actually discussed a divorce, Melissa said the word only came up in passing.
“I don’t know how seriously it’s come up. Have we brought it up and gasped about it? Probably," she admitted. "But never anything that… nothing has ever happened to us other than these highs and lows. I’m probably more busy than I’ve ever been and I think that affects him. He admits there’s insecurities with that. He doesn’t like change. And sometimes I need to be more sensitive [to that].”
Melissa Gorga's Season 11 Drama With Joe Was Different From Past Seasons
Looking back at the drama she and Joe have faced over the past several years, Melissa said that season 11 was much different due to the fact that their issues were their own.
"We’ve had so many things thrown at us. That was the thing. This wasn’t coming from other people. This was truly between Joe and I and I think that’s why it was different," she explained. "It wasn’t someone accusing us.. It was truly my feelings and his feelings clashing and that was a first for us."

In the months since filming wrapped, Melissa and Joe have gotten to a better place.
"Since then we’ve gotten better. We’ve talked about it and I think filming it made it very real. We sat back. When the cameras went down, we were like, ‘Alright, we need to regroup and not lose this and fight hard.’ And that’s what we’re doing right now,” she confirmed.
