On "Short n' Sweet," released Friday, 25-year-old pop star Sabrina Carpenter seems to drop several subtle hints about her rumored relationship with Shawn Mendes and his on-again, off-again ex, Camila Cabello.
The "Feathers" singer was rumored to be seeing Mendes back in February 2023, but he shot down those rumors in an interview just a month later.
While Sabrina Carpenter doesn't drop his name specifically in any of her songs, it’s pretty clear to fans that the Shawn Mendes drama is referenced in some tracks on the album.
Did Sabrina Carpenter Take A Dig At Shawn Mendes In 'Taste'?
On the album’s opening track, "Taste," Carpenter appears to hint at Mendes when she sings, "You're wonderin' why half his clothes went missin' / My body's where they at." Many are speculating this is a reference to the singer's infamous shirtless photos.
She also sings about a tumultuous, on-again, off-again romance, which could be a nod to the Mendes and Camila Cabello's relationship. "I heard you're back together and if that's true / You'll just have to taste me when he's kissin' you / If you want forever, I bet you do / Just know you'll taste me too," Carpenter sings later in the track.
Cabello and Mendes dated for over two years before breaking up in 2021, with their romance briefly rekindling in 2023.

Another Track May Have Taken Aim At Shawn Mendes
"Taste" isn't the only track that fans think was about Shawn Mendes. The song titled "Sharpest Tool," seems to target an ex for rekindling a past romance, which could be a dig at Mendes, who was seen kissing Cabello in April 2023—just two months after Carpenter was rumored to be hanging out with Mendes.
The lyrics go: "We never talk about how you / Found God at your ex's house, always / Made sure that the phone was face-down / Seems like overnight, I'm just the b-tch you hate now."
Once again, fans took to X to chime in on the speculation, with one user writing, "You're telling me Sabrina Carpenter wrote this many lyrics about former Vine star and 'Magcon' boy Shawn Mendes?!"

Is 'Coincidence' Also About Sabrina Carpenter's Love Triangle With Shawn Mendes And Camila Cabello?
