In the new music video, 25-year-old Carpenter seeks revenge on her ex, played by fellow “Halloween” actor Rohan Campbell, for moving on with someone new—played by 21-year-old Ortega—by stalking her and sneaking into her home in an attempt to kill her. One of the lyrics in the song goes, “You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you."

However, Ortega proves to be just as unpredictable, sparking several intense confrontations between the two. The drama takes an unexpected turn with a surprising kiss.

Spoiler alert: They eventually put their rivalry aside and walk off together from the boyfriend’s funeral, coffee in hand, sharing a laugh over their crazy showdown.

The "graphic violence" warning at the beginning of Carpenter's new music video for "Taste"—from her just-released sixth album, "Short n' Sweet"—might initially suggest things have taken a dark turn from her previous releases. But don't be fooled.

The over-the-top violence in this Tarantino-inspired clip is more silly than disturbing. Carpenter and Ortega go wild in a series of outrageous scenes, including one where Ortega sets Carpenter on fire, hacks off her arm, throws her out of a window, and impales her on a picket fence.

“I heard you’re back together and if that’s true/ You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you,” Carpenter sings in her new song. “If you want forever, I bet you do/ Just know you’ll taste me too.”

In addition to "Taste" and her two latest hits, "Please Please Please" and "Espresso," her new album, which was released on Friday, also includes “Sharpest Tools,” “Coincidence,” “Good Graces,” “Slim Pickins,” “Juno,” “Lie to Girls,” “Bed Chem,” “Dumb & Poetic,” and “Don’t Smile.”

“It’s my second ‘big girl’ album,” she told Variety. “It’s a companion, but it’s not the same. When it comes to having full creative control and being a full-fledged adult, I would consider this a sophomore album.”

Ahead of its release, the 25-year-old former Disney Channel star also shared a little secret with her fans, revealing the reason behind the album's title, "Short n' Sweet."

“I called it 'Short n’ Sweet' for multiple reasons," she began to explain. "It was not because I’m vertically challenged. It was really like I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had and they affected me the most."

"I think about the way that I respond to situations, and sometimes it is very nice and sometimes it’s not very nice," the artist continued. "And again, the thing about albums, projects, writing songs, it’s all moments. So harder for other people to understand that when they’re listening to something that’s going to take them through maybe a lot of years, hopefully a lot of years, is that I’m not the same person that I was when I wrote that."

"I’ve always yearned to care enough about a person or a situation or a relationship in my life that it provokes that much feeling in me, because I think that’s why we’re here, I think, you know?” she concluded.

When talking about her latest album, Carpenter told Zane Lowe on "Apple Music 1," “I feel a thread running through this album of not just self-discovery, but also getting through the heartache and heartbreak that can often."

"Man, it can really break you for a long time,” she continued. “And I get the feeling, even with the humor and with a healthy dose of judgment in some of these songs, that you were hurting real bad.”

"Short n' Sweet" is out now.
