More details surrounding Jennifer Lopez's recent divorce filing from Ben Affleck continue to emerge after months of speculation about their troubled marriage.
According to insiders close to the "Hustlers" actress, the truth behind their breakup is far more complicated than a simple case of "irreconcilable differences," as Affleck was allegedly "selfish, sullen and a loud mouth" all through their two-year marriage.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck will, however, not fight over money in their divorce, with the actress stating in her filing that she doesn't need spousal support.
The 'Real Reason' Behind Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck's Split Revealed
The pair were embroiled in rumors of a broken union all summer, as they went months without being seen together and also missed out on celebrating special events and holidays together.
Following the 55-year-old singer's August 20 divorce filing from Affleck at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, a source close to Lopez has claimed that their troubled marriage was due to a multitude of issues that ultimately led to its demise, even though they managed to cover it.
"He was impossible to be married to," the insider told the Daily Mail. "Friends think he is selfish, sullen, impossible to please most of the time, and negative."
They added, "She was constantly trying to lift his spirits, and boost him up – it was exhausting. He is a loudmouth, loves to hear himself talk, and blusters on. She was a great audience, mostly she hung onto his every word, but she is not as young and impressionable as she used to be."
Lopez's filing, which she made without a lawyer, stated the date of her separation from Affleck as April 26.
The 'Negativity Became Overwhelming' For The Singer
The "Jenny From The Block" singer reportedly launched a last-minute effort to salvage what was left of their broken marriage at some point.
Still, Affleck seemingly felt like all was done between them as he allegedly remained disinterested in reuniting.
What ensued were months of speculation and rumors, which Lopez reportedly found "personally humiliating. "
The insider told the news outlet that "the negativity was overwhelming in the end, she could not lift him anymore."
Jennifer Lopez Was 'Done Waiting' For Ben Affleck To Come Around
A source told People that the "Atlas" actress was "done waiting," hence her decision to call it quits after initially hoping for Affleck to come around.
"She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken," the insider said. "The kids are a top priority, as they always have been."
Another source claimed that Lopez is "very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn't given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage," adding that it got "to the point that she just needs to look out for herself."
The Couple Plans To Separate 'Amicably'
Lopez and Affleck are not expected to fight over money, as their divorce has been tagged as "amicable."
"The two of them will just call it quits and be glad it's over," a source told the Daily Mail.
According to the news outlet, Lopez's divorce petition also contained a financial information sheet revealing they had no prenuptial agreement. This means the couple would likely have to split any income or community property acquired during their two-year union.
Before their divorce was confirmed, Lopez and Affleck had already placed their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion on the market, but they have yet to secure a buyer.
Affleck, however, has already secured a new home for himself in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles for $20.5m, while Lopez is still house-hunting.
Ben Affleck's Ex-Wife Felt Like A 'Pawn' In Their Relationship
One person caught in the middle of Lopez and Affleck's marital troubles was the "Gone Girl" actor's ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares kids Violet, Samuel, and Fin.
Insiders revealed that Garner felt like she was used as a "pawn" in their relationship as she had to adopt the awkward mediator role between the pair.
"Jen feels slightly used as a pawn in JLo's bid to repair her marriage," a source told the Daily Mail. "She doesn't believe it was intentional."
"But when Jen realized her ex-husband's marriage was past the point of salvation, her only concern was Ben's well-being and sobriety," the insider stated.
