New Horror Film 'Stream' Will 'Bring The Slasher Genre To The 21st Century'

The new horror film "Stream," from the masterminds behind the "Terrifier" franchise, just hit theaters on Wednesday and is already causing a major stir—especially with Tim Curry making his big-screen comeback years after his stroke.

A peaceful stay in a quaint hotel seems like the perfect getaway for the Keenan family, but what awaits them is far from relaxing. The quiet weekend vacation quickly turns into a nightmare as four deranged killers, engaged in a twisted game, lock down the hotel and compete to commit the most creative murders among the guests.

The Michael Leavy-directed slasher flick, "Stream," is set to appeal to both classic horror enthusiasts and the new generation of scary movie fans.

Director Michael Leavy told The Blast exclusively that the new film is a new modernization of the original slasher movies where the serial killer took over a "safe place."

"You have 'Jaws' which exposed a typical day at the beach, which is a safe place that made you question," he told The Blast. "'Halloween' did it with the neighborhood, 'Nightmare On Elm Street' with your dreams, 'Psycho' with a shower, Jason with summer camp."

"We tried to expose a safe place and have them question things, especially with the new generation of social media, the internet. We are really focused on bringing the slasher genre to the 21st century, with the tech stuff, while still paying homage to the classics."

While "Stream" just hit select theaters on Wednesday, it has already made an impact on horror fans, especially those who have been following Fuzz on the Lens Productions since the "Terrifier" franchise.

"Horror fans are buying tickets for other horror fans who are less fortunate," Leavy told The Blast. "Goes to show you how amazing the 'Terrifier' franchise is and how there is still good in humanity."

The film is only scheduled to play for a few days, but "hopefully, if people come out and show up, we can get it expanded," he told us exclusively. Plus, for those who go out and see it, there will be special sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes clips of upcoming projects!

The movie follows a family's quiet weekend escape that quickly becomes a nightmare when four deranged killers, engaged in a twisted game, lock down their hotel and compete to execute the most creative murders among the guests.

"Stream" is under the Staten Island-based production company, Fuzz on the Lens Productions, whose mission is "to entertain as many people as possible, in any way we can."

"Whether it be feature films, short films, commercials, television, music videos, a photograph or anything in between… entertainment is what we live for," the company states. "We do not believe in being limited to one genre or medium, because we know every audience wants something different and it is our goal to appeal to all of them."

The cast is packed with horror genre heavyweights, including David Howard Thornton (star of the “Terrifier” franchise), Jeffrey Combs, Danielle Harris, Tim Reid, Dee Wallace, and Mark Holton.

Joining them are Felissa Rose, Daniel Roebuck, Dave Sheridan, Terry Alexander, Charles Edwin Powell, Bob Adrian, Sydney Malakeh, Wesley Holloway, Damian Maffei, and Terry Kiser.

Plus, earlier today, it was announced that Tim Curry will be making his highly anticipated return to the big screen, starring in the upcoming horror film. This will mark his first feature film role since the 2010 comedy “Burke & Hare.”

“Stream” is produced by a talented team that includes Michael Leavy, his brother Jason, Steven Della Salla, Marcus Slabine, Damien Leone, Phil Falcone, George Steuber, Bobby C. King, Craig Loydgren, and Jamie Root, in collaboration with Laknar Entertainment. The film is executive produced by Naresh Peter Menezes. Damien Leone, the creative force behind the “Terrifier” franchise, also lends his expertise to the special FX makeup.
