Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, have not had the best of relationships since the duke and his wife, Meghan Markle, quit their royal duties to go live in the U.S.

Their rift has reportedly deepened as William is understood to be upset that Harry and Meghan still refer to his wife, Princess Catherine, as "Kate."

Prince William has now set his sights on the future and reportedly doesn't want Prince Harry to be in attendance for his coronation.

According to The Daily Beast, a source close to the Prince of Wales said that he was left fuming at Harry and Meghan for referring to Catherine as "Kate" when they sent their get-well-soon message to her after her cancer diagnosis became public.

The princess has since stated that she prefers to go by her birth name, Catherine, but Harry and Meghan's unwillingness to adopt it "even when they were sending her get-well-soon messages after her cancer diagnosis" was labeled as an "entirely unnecessary and deliberate irritation."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in their statement at the time, "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace."

However, an insider revealed that William didn't like the move, which seemingly explains why they ignored the message.

"The fact that Harry and Meghan were unable to bring themselves to use her chosen name, even when they were sending her get-well-soon messages after her cancer diagnosis, was noted," a friend of William disclosed.

The source continued, "William takes offense at people calling Catherine 'Kate' because she has asked to be known as Catherine. It's a fairly simple wish to respect. I'm sure Meghan wouldn't like it if William started publicly calling her 'Meghan Markle.'"

The future queen is universally known as Kate in the U.S. and was popularly called that name during her university days; however, she made the switch to be referred to as Catherine shortly before marrying William.

Harry is seemingly not used to it as he frequently addressed the princess as Kate in his record-breaking memoir "Spare," aside from when he recalled King Charles calling her "Catherine," which he noted made him "flinch."

According to the Daily Beast, the source shared that although the matter is an "utterly trivial thing," people who know William "know that it is one of the things that pushes his buttons."

"Pushing his buttons while he was going through his wife's cancer seemed an entirely unnecessary and deliberate irritation," the insider shared, adding, "I wonder if the private card began, 'Dear Kate…'"

Another source told the news outlet, "No one's saying it's responsible for all the trouble, but deliberately calling someone by a name they don't like is just bloody rude. If Harry and Meghan were serious about healing their issue, a good first step would be to call her Catherine."

Meanwhile, William is already setting his sights on when he'll be crowned king and how he wants his coronation to look.

According to the Sunday Times, the father-of-three has reportedly disclosed that he wants his coronation to "look and feel different" and doesn't want Harry to be present.

"They are estranged, which is dreadfully sad," a close source told the news outlet, further revealing that William and Harry haven't spoken in almost two years.

Tradition demands that William ascend the throne in the event of Charles' passing. The current monarch ascended the throne in 2022 when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at age 96.

There Is 'No Sign Of A Reconciliation On The Horizon'

Royal expert Christopher Andersen, author of The King, has shared his hopes that William will not sideline his younger brother on his big day.

"Despite all the bad blood between the brothers, I'm convinced that, when the time does come, William will not be foolish enough to exclude his only sibling, now fifth in line to the throne, from his coronation," Andersen said.

"Things probably have never been worse between the brothers than they are now," he continued. "William and Charles have pretty much made the joint decision to effectively cut Harry out of their lives, at least for the time being. There is no sign of a reconciliation on the horizon, and everyone involved seems to have pretty much come to terms with that."

Why The Future King Has 'Found It Easier To Slam The Door' On His Brother

According to royal expert Christopher Andersen, William has found it easier to "slam the door" on his brother Harry while managing things at the palace, especially during the health crisis plaguing his wife and father.

The royal expert said, "It's just been so much easier for William, facing the pressure of having to cope with his wife's, as well as his father's cancer diagnoses, to slam the door on Harry."

He further claimed that the late Queen Elizabeth II also gave Harry the cold shoulder.

"Queen Elizabeth was able to do it, and the king has shown no interest in making amends with Harry either," Andersen told Fox News Digital. "If anything, it looks as if the cancer diagnoses have made it easier for William to shut his brother out."
