'Framing Britney Spears'
Spears is a popular figure in the music industry, like other celebrities, she has been through a lot of scandals. These scandals ranged from her relationship with American musician and songwriter Justin Timberlake, to her conservatorship issues with her father.
She released this documentary that detailed specific aspects of her life, on February 5th, 2021. The film spoke about her struggles in the industry, her emotional struggles in relationships and more.
This documentary which has been viewed by millions of fans all over the world, became a sensations on social media. Several celebrities and fans revealed their thoughts after watching the documentary and that included Mayer.
John Mayer Expresses Concern For Women
After watching the documentary, Mayer, during an interview with Andy Cohen on “SiriusXM,” shared his thoughts.
“I almost cried five times during Framing Britney Spears,” he said.
“I have a very strong feeling that a lot of these things that happen to female performers is endemic to being female.”
This statement, although correct, didn’t sit well with many social media users as they saw his words as lies.
When Mayer was in a relationship with Jessica Simpson, he once sexualized her during an interview with “Playboy,” which he later apologized for.
Mayer's Past Comment
Mayer was involved in an on again off again relationship with Simpson back in the summer of 2006. This romance began right after she got divorced from her then husband.
During an interview, Mayer spoke about how Simpson was like “cocaine” to him.
“...Sexually it was crazy, that’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f***ing snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f*** you, I would start selling all my shit just to keep f***ing you,’” he concluded.
What Was Simpson's Reaction?
Simpson was hurt by his comment because he openly spoke about their sexual life and she was not pleased with that. She soon released a memoir titled “Open Book,” which brought to life her relationship with Mayer.
She talked about him being obsessed with her, and how she had to deal with anxiety. After the comments resurfaced, she addressed it during an interview on “The Tamron Hall Show” recently.
“I definitely don’t feel that I am owed a public apology,” Simpson said.
“I mean, you can’t take it back. I’m a very forgiving person, but I’m also honest”
The singer and fashion designer is happily married and has since moved on from the incident.
