Travis Kelce Roasts Patrick Mahomes' Voice In Hilarious Impersonation

In Saturday's game against the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce pulled off an unbelievable play for a first down.

Patrick Mahomes had been teasing fans all week about pulling off a behind-the-back pass during a game, and he finally made good on his word.

In the preseason matchup at Arrowhead Stadium, Mahomes delivered the jaw-dropping move, connecting with Travis Kelce for an 8-yard gain and a first down. It all went down on Mahomes' final drive before he was subbed out for backup QB Carson Wentz late in the first quarter.

Following the game, Travis Kelce was asked about the unbelievable play, and when answering the press' questions, he hilariously mocked Patrick Mahomes for his "Kermit The Frog" voice.

According to Patrick Mahomes, the play to Travis Kelce wasn’t originally set up for a behind-the-back toss, but hey, it still worked like a charm.

"It wasn't a play? No, it was a play. It was the first down," Kelce told reporters after the game, but that's when he decided to poke fun at his close friend, mocking his iconic voice.

"You know he's got the voice thing (mocks Patrick Mahomes' voice.) He kind of mumbled out the play. I couldn't hear it. I was walking up to the line, and I was like trying to decipher what he was saying, and before I knew it, he snapped the ball," the tight end teased.

The video was shared on Instagram, and it quickly went viral.

"Trav did Mahomes dirty with this," the NFL captioned the video, which has gained over 55k likes and nearly 400 comments.

"That was a perfect impression," one social media user said. "This is so funny," another commented.

"He sounded just like Mahomes fr. Lmaooo," a third wrote.

Several others used laughing emojis to express their reactions to the clip.

According to ESPN, insiders said Coach Andy Reid has been nudging Patrick Mahomes to try a behind-the-back pass in a real game. Mahomes has toyed with the idea during practice, even pulling it off recently with a completion to running back Isiah Pacheco at training camp.

"It has to happen naturally,'' Mahomes said after the game. "I can't force it. ... It probably looked pretty cool, but I haven't actually got to see it yet.''

Reid seems to be on board with the new move--as long as Mahomes lands the pass.

"Got to think positive,'' the Chiefs' head coach mentioned to reporters that he’s never witnessed a throw like that being successfully completed in a game. "They do it in basketball every game, several times in every game. So it's not that big of a deal [going] behind the back.''

As for what happens if it gets intercepted or falls incomplete? Reid’s keeping that reaction under wraps.

While the play may have looked effortless, Mahomes said it wasn't planned at all. 

“Yeah. I mean, long story short, Travis didn’t run the route he was supposed to run and then it was kind of a behind-the-back pass kinda ‘cause I was mad. I was pissed off at Travis,” Mahomes said during an interview as the crew laughed in the background. “He was supposed to run a flat route, I don’t know if you can hear me on the broadcast, I’m yelling at him and then he doesn’t run it, so out of spite, I threw a behind-the-back pass, but now it’s going to be a highlight.”

He added, “100% [it was improv]. That’s what I’ve been trying to say to everybody, it can’t be planned. It’s gotta be just naturally happening, kinda in the groove of things, and so I actually forgot about it until halftime, someone actually brought it up to me. It wasn’t like I planned it at all or it wasn’t a called play, it just kinda happened.”

“I was just like, ‘Gosh, darn it, Travis,’ and I threw it behind my back and it worked out for us.”

Mahomes noted that while he managed to pull it off this time, behind-the-back passes won’t be a regular part of his game. He said he'll only use them when absolutely necessary.

"If you look at that play, I'm not going to say it's the only way you can make that throw,'' the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said. "But it would've been hard for me to kind of turn and throw it back across or above the guy, the two guys, chasing me. We'll see when we get on film, but it's not something that I want to try to major in.

"It might be something that just kind of happens every once in a while," he concluded.
