Lisa Vanderpump recently embarked on a wild new series with the E! Network.
After spending nine seasons on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and eight seasons on her Bravo spinoff, "Vanderpump Rules," Vanderpump opened up about her latest reality show, "Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump" during an interview onAccess Hollywoodon March 24.
“I was allowed to invite anybody I wanted so I wanted very close friends because it was a new show, people that I knew were going to come and party," Vanderpump recalled.
The Idea For 'Overserved' Happened During Quarantine
"And you guys [Mario and Courtney Lopez] I can always rely on you being so much fun,” Vanderpump continued of "Access Hollywood" host Mario Lopez and his wife, who were featured as guests on the show.
According to Vanderpump, the idea for "Overserved With Lisa Vanderpump" came about after months of quarantining in Los Angeles.
"We’d been locked up for nine months. Our restaurants had been closed so life as we knew it had radically changed and production were talking to me because 'Vanderpump Rules' was canceled that year," she explained.
'Vanderpump Rules' Didn't Film Due To Closures In Los Angeles
While filming on "Vanderpump Rules" typically occurs during the summer months, season nine never got underway in 2020 due to the restrictions put into place to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
"Obviously because the restaurants were closed and nobody was filming and they said, ‘If we gave you a camera, what would you like to film?’ And I was thinking, ‘Maybe a dinner party show.’ We came up with this idea but the prerequisite for it was we wanted to have a dinner party where it wasn’t like a Housewives dinner party," Vanderpump said.
'Overserved' Was About 'Having A Good Time' For Lisa Vanderpump
"This was going to be all about having a good time. It was looking for people that we knew would come to play,” Vanderpump added.
One particularly memorable guest was Michael Tuchin, Lance Bass’ husband.
"[He] did an excellent job on the first episode of making a complete twist of himself," Vanderpump laughed. "But we had people here that were sober as well, that weren’t drinking, but it was all about making a decadent dinner party and it was also home grown because we had minimal help.”
The Alcohol Was Flowing On The Set Of 'Overserved'
“People drank," Vanderpump confirmed. "They got a little crazy and I joined in. Jeff Lewis was jumping on my pink flamingo in the pool and telling me how he made out with Andy Cohen. I got all kinds of secret out of people. We had a very serious laugh doing this show.”
To see more of Vanderpump and her cast mates, don't miss the debut season of her latest series, "Overserved With Lisa Vanderpump," which airs every Thursday night at 10/9c on the E! Network.
