Demi Lovato Reveals She Almost Left Rehab After Social Media Scrutiny

The media is a large space where people often air their thoughts and opinion, regardless of who or what it is they speaking about.

Usually, celebrities are the ones on the receiving end of such media opinions and it doesn’t matter what people say to them, all they have to do is take it.

One time, Demi Lovato, who was working on her rehabilitation, almost gave up on it, after she read a negative comment targeted at her on social media.

Like many celebrities today, Lovato began her journey in the entertainment world as a child star with “Disney Channel.” She first began as an actor with roles in TV shows like “Barney & Friends” and “Camp Rock” series. 

As time went on, she started recording soundtracks for some of these movies and eventually earned her debut on the Billboard Hot 100, after a duet with Joe Jonas.

In 2008, Lovato released a pop rock debut album titled “Don’t Forget” and it recorded at number two on the Billboard 200, which was a massive win for the singer. 

Child stars are sometimes at risk for neglect or imposing by the media, which is something, some of them can’t handle, at least on their own.

This is why youngsters are often advices to have a family figure around always, to keep them in check and guide them through difficult moments.

Lovato’s parents were divorced when she was two and in a way, being a child star, helped her find herself. But as time when on, she was faced with several physical and mental issues, which stemmed from the time a colleague ‘date raped’ her.

At a young age, Lovato turned to the use of cocaine and alcohol to get her through difficult days. She once revealed that she smuggled substance on the plane several times when she was traveling.

However, things got bad when she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She also suffered from bulimia, self-harm and aneroxia nervosa.

At age 18, she decided to go into rehab, after she went off on a female dancer, Alex Welch, during the Jonas brothers concert. After a while, Lovato was released from the center and also detailed her addiction and struggles in an article.

She also spoke about the time she almost quit sobriety process after she came across an insult on the media, but she didn‘t.

The 28-year-old mentioned that in 2018, right after she got out of rehab, she went through an article that described her as “morbidly obese.”

At that point, Lovato was still dealing with her eating disorder and that statement felt almost like a trigger. She explained to the news outlet that the phrase was offensive in every way.”

“... that sucked and I wanted to quit, I wanted to use, wanted to give up,” she said.

Although she was hurt and she knew that there were more negative phrases out there, she concluded that not paying attention to them, would help her get the help she needs.

Till date, she isn’t paying attention to negative reviews.
