Did Tinsley Mortimer's Ex-Fiance Scott Kluth Lie About Their Split?

Tinsley Mortimer’s friends are reportedly convinced that her former fiancé, Scott Kluth, is lying about their split.

Days after Kluth confirmed the end of their two-year engagement with a statement to PEOPLE magazine, an insider is speaking to Page Six, stating that while Kluth’s pals suggested he had been trying to break up with the former Real Housewives of New York City cast member for months, they aren’t buying the claims. After all, if Kluth truly considered their engagement to be over months ago, he likely wouldn’t have shared a Valnetine’s Day post from Mortimer on his business’ website in February.

In the post, Mortimer had written, “Scott knows how much I love straw hats, and every time we go somewhere warm, we always joke about how many hats I’m going to bring home. He saw [the neon pink hat in the picture of Mortimer that illustrated the story] on our recent trip to Mexico, and he instantly knew it was something that I would adore.”

“Scott was encouraging her to do Chicago-based things and Coupon Cabin as if they were together,” said an insider.

Meanwhile, a source close to Kluth claimed Mortimer was contractually obligated to share the posts on Kluth’s website, and that Kluth had no say in what she shared.

Following Kluth’s breakup statement last week, Mortimer’s friends spoke out against Kluth, slamming him for allegedly forcing her to quit her role on The Real Housewives of New York City before he would propose.

“He tortured her. For years he would break up with her and get back together with her and break up with her again,” said one of Mortimer’s pals. “But when he proposed, she believed he meant it. She left her career, she left her livelihood, she left her home, and suddenly he’s back to his old tricks again and he called off the engagement.”

“He has a fear of commitment. He never had it in him to follow through with his promise to marry her. And he used her celebrity to promote his coupon company,” the insider added.

In response to the claims against him, Kluth released a statement toPage Six, via his spokesperson.

“It is disappointing that during this emotional time for both of them, Tinsley is mischaracterizing the circumstances of their breakup, which happened months ago. As Scott has already said, he wishes nothing but the best for Tinsley and is seeking to recover emotionally and move on.”

Mortimer and Kluth got engaged in November 2019, about two and a half years after they were set up on a date by Mortimer's former "Real Housewives of New York City" co-star, Carole Radziwill. 

Mortimer’s former cast mates are set to return to Bravo for the 13th season of “The Real Housewives of New York City” on May 4 at 9/8c on Bravo. The new season is not expected to include Mortimer but will featured new cast members Eboni K. Williams and Bershan Shaw.
