Salma Hayek suffered a painful injury to her gorgeous feet! Well, her beautiful ankle, but it is a tragedy nonetheless!
The iconic actress shared a snap that featured her injured appendage on Tuesday, March 23. Salma was lounging back as she had her left ankle elevated and treated with an ice pack. She used a pillow to prop up her numb foot and toes and read a book to pass the icing time. Hayek picked up a book about Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, whose story would make anyone toughen up!

"Nothing like reading a book about #fridakahlo when you sprain an ankle," she captioned her pic. Aside from Frida being an international icon, Hayek's reading material is interesting because she played Kahlo in the critically acclaimed 2002 movie "Frida." One would think that she already learned everything there is to know about the painter when she prepared for the role, but it shows how influential the Mexican artist was and still is.
As we previously mentioned, it's hard to feel sorry for yourself or your injuries when learning about the physical and emotional pain Frida lived through.

Frida Kahlo was born in 1907 and is best known for her self-portraits and art that questioned gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Interestingly enough, the artist dealt with a tremendous amount of pain after being impaled by an iron handrail during a bus accident in 1925. She described her accident as "the way a sword pierces a bull," drawing the metaphor from Mexico's famous bullfights.
It's impossible to read about what she overcame and negatively view any injury short of that magnitude. A sprained ankle seems like nothing compared to an impaled pelvis!

Salma's injury comes two days after she posted a stunning swimsuit snap. "#sundayfunday," she wrote alongside the pic of herself in a curve-hugging one-piece. Perhaps Sunday Fun-day got a little too fun before things took a turn for the worse (bad ankle sprain joke).
It's unclear when and how Hayek injured her ankle, but we are praying for a speedy recovery! The Frida book will definitely help!
