For anyone thinking about visiting a medspa and trying out Botox or fillers, there are some important things to keep in mind.

Speed, founder of Flawless Medspa and highly sought-after injector to the stars, recently shared valuable information with The Blast to help anyone thinking about making an appointment for a treatment.

"I always encourage first-time clients to do their homework before stepping into any med spa," Speed told The Blast exclusively.

"It's crucial to ensure that your injector is a licensed medical professional with extensive experience in the procedures you're considering. Your safety and satisfaction are the most important things and partnering with a knowledgeable and skilled provider is the key to achieving beautiful, natural-looking results."

The experience can be a little nerve-wracking for someone who's never had any cosmetic procedures or treatments done, but it doesn't have to be. Speed shared some important information that can help everything go smoothly.

"To ensure the best experience, I advise my clients to avoid blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, St. John's Wort, turmeric, and even melatonin for at least a week before their appointment," she said.

"It's also advisable to skip energy drinks and alcohol during this time as well. This preparation helps minimize bruising and ensures your body is in the best state for optimal results."

Things To Keep In Mind After Your Treatment

As far as after treatment, it's important to avoid sun exposure, intensive exercise, and alcohol for at least 24 hours.

"These precautions help reduce the risk of bruising and swelling, ensuring that you get the best possible results from your treatment," she explained.

With Botox, there really isn't any downtime after treatment. Bruising is rare and can be covered up by makeup if it does occur.

"Fillers, on the other hand, do have a bit more recovery time, with bruising and swelling peaking the day after treatment and typically resolving within a week," Speed shared. "The downtime for most other popular treatments tend to be similar, with mild, temporary effects that quickly subside."

One question on many people's minds before getting Botox or filler is how long it will last.

Botox typically lasts about three months, and most fillers can last up to a year.

"However, this can vary depending on your metabolism and how your body processes the product," Speed told The Blast. "Some people may find their results last a bit shorter or longer."

It's also important to know what potential risks are associated with injectables. Risks can include bleeding, bruising, swelling, lumps, tenderness, and asymmetry.

"However, the most common side effects are minor bruising and swelling, which usually resolve quickly," she said. "I recommend starting treatments in your 20s to maintain youthful skin and prevent deeper lines from forming later in life."

New Chapter Of Life: New Me!

Melanie Speed and Paige Barber

I recently relocated to Las Vegas from the East Coast, and while I've thought about trying out Botox or fillers in the past, I felt it was time. I just entered a new chapter in my life, so why not go all in, right?

I visited Flawless Medspa in Vegas and saw Nurse Paige for lip filler. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time but never had the opportunity. So when the time presented itself, I jumped at the chance.

I was super nervous about my decision but knew if I didn't go through with it, I would constantly feel some regret for not going for it. Through my anxiety, I went to the office and met with Paige. Everyone at Flawless Medspa was super friendly and understood that nerves run deep when you're new to this. Paige made me feel completely confident that I was making the right decision and that I was in good hands.

The process of getting lip filler wasn't what I would call painful, just a little uncomfortable at times, but they do numb you up before starting. And the whole process was pretty quick! After treatment, looking in the mirror was a moment in time. My first thought was - what did I just do, and my second thought was - wow, I really did it! There was definitely a feeling of empowerment that ran deeper than just appearances.

I was a bit swollen as I expected and the next day a little more, but I really didn't bruise at all and the swelling wasn't so bad that I felt I needed to hide in my house. By the third or fourth day, I was obsessed with my results, and I literally cannot wait to go back to Flawless for microneedling (something I've done in the past on the East Coast.)

Flawless Medspa offers a variety of non-surgical cosmetic and wellness treatments, including injectables, Plasma IQ pens, hair restoration, vitamin shots, vampire facials, and more. With more than 25 years of nursing experience, 12 of which as a nurse injector, Speed's commitment to ongoing education and training has led her to become an instructor for Allergan Medical Institute.
