Taylor Swift Is Moving Forward With London Shows Despite Vienna Plot

The show will go on for London Swifties as Taylor Swift's upcoming concerts won't be canceled.

The "Fortnight" singer recently faced a terror plot that forced her to cancel three shows in Vienna. The situation increased her concerts' security, with the Met Police promising a safe environment for her London appearance.

Taylor Swift's axed Vienna shows reportedly resulted in massive losses, but it was a small price to pay for foiling a plan that threatened to claim "as many lives as possible."

A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that Swift's upcoming concerts at Wembley Stadium would continue as planned. The shows scheduled to start on August 15 would have beefed up security measures like walk-through metal detectors.

"London plays hosts to a significant number of very high profile events each year with millions of visitors having a safe and enjoyable experience," the Met Police spokesperson said, adding:

"The Met works closely with venue security teams and other partners to ensure there are appropriate security and policing plans in place."

The Daily Mail reported that the source assured Swifties that there was no need to be scared, claiming, "There is nothing to indicate that the matters being investigated by the Austrian authorities will impact upcoming events here in London."

London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, echoed similar sentiments about Swift's upcoming concerts, noting that police, City Hall, and councils were working to ensure the safety of concertgoers. He referenced Ariana Grande's tragic 2017 bombing, saying:

"We have a huge amount of experience in policing these events. We're never complacent. Many lessons were learned after the awful Manchester Arena attack."

"I'm sure Vienna has its own reasons tocancel the Taylor Swift concerts. We're going to carry on working closely with police and ensuring the concerts can take place safely," the Mayor continued.

Swift was set to perform in front of an estimated 170,000 fans on August 8, 9, and 10 in Vienna when authorities uncovered a horrific plot on Wednesday, August 7. The concerts were subsequently canceled following the threat.

Police revealed that two suspects were arrested for allegedly plotting a terror attack at Swift's Vienna concerts. The culprits, aged 17 and 19, reportedly had "planned carnage with a bomb, knives, and a vehicle attack on young fans."

Austrian security officials claimed the 19-year-old confessed he planned to "kill as many people as possible outside the concert venue." His terror attack was supposed to end with him detonating a homemade bomb and ending his life.

Following news of Swift's canceled concerts, Brand and Culture Expert Nick Ede revealed the singer could face a nine-figure bill for canceling the shows. He noted that three Eras Tour gigs would have cost around £136,500,000, based on the average ticket price and a £700 spend.

"This doesn't take into consideration the extra security and teams having to support the thousands of fans who have traveled to see her," Ede added, claiming Swift's ticket refunds meant a loss of millions.

After canceling the Austrian leg of her Eras Tour, The Blast reported that a source claimed Swift was "horrified" by the possibility of a terror attack at one of her shows. In their words:

"Taylor has been devastated by this. She is devastated for the fans who have been waiting for years to see her."

"But the thought of what could have happened if the concerts had been targeted by a terror attack is horrifying, and she would never risk the safety of her fans," the insider explained, noting Swift planned on returning to Vienna.

"She has told her team that she wants to try to return to Vienna as soon as possible in the future. She is very conscious of how disappointed her fans in Austria are," the source claimed.

Five years before the Vienna terror plot, Swift revealed her "biggest fear" was a concert attack. The Blast noted she addressed her concern in a 2019 interview, referencing Ariana Grande's tragic concert bombing.

"After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting. I was completely terrified to go on tour this time because I didn't know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe over seven months," Swift confessed.

Fortunately, Taylor Swift's worst fear didn't become a reality in Vienna.
