Days after current Vice President Kamala Harris announced her decision to run against Donald Trump in the upcoming election, she unveiled Tim Walz as her running mate.

In the wake of this news, Maya Rudolph revealed she would return to her Emmy-winning role as Kamala Harris on "Saturday Night Live" this fall--and now, fans are wondering who could play her new VP candidate.

On Tuesday, Harris named Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, bringing the vocal Midwestern leader into the national spotlight. The announcement quickly sparked social media buzz, with many users casting Walz in the upcoming season of "Saturday Night Live."

"So Steve Martin is definitely gonna play Walz on 'SNL' right?" one user suggested as they shared a side-by-side photo comparison of Walz and Martin--and the similarities are uncanny.

"And just like that, we have a Democrat ticket (Harris-Walz) and 'SNL' political pairing (Maya Rudolph-Steve Martin). I’m ready for it," another social media user said.

Steve Martin Reacts To Calls For Him To Play Tim Walz

Shortly after he began trending on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Steve Martin took to its competitor, Threads, to react to the calls.

"I just learned that Tim Walz wants to go on the road with Marty Short," the actor wrote in a Threads post, re-sharing an image of him and Maya Rudolph dressed as Kamala Harris.

Once again, fans begged Martin to contact "SNL" to fulfill their dreams. "Please tell us that you’ll offer your services for this season of 'SNL' along with Maya Rudolph! You would totally nailed this, IMHO," one Threads user said.

"I see you and Maya on 'SNL'!!!" another replied.

Tuesday morning, Kamala Harris shared a one-minute video on social media that captured the moment she invited Walz to join her on the Democratic ticket.

"I would be honored Madam Vice President," Walz responded to Harris' ask. "The joy that you're bringing back to the country, the enthusiasm that's out there, it'll be a privilege to take this with you across the country."

"I have just the utmost respect for you. I have really enjoyed our work together. You understand our country. You have dedicated yourself to our country in so many different beautiful ways," Harris then replied. "We're gonna win and we're gonna unify our country and remind everyone that we are fighting for the future for everyone."

Barack and Michelle Obama were some of the first to support Kamala Harris' VP pick, as they shared a joint statement on social media on Tuesday.

"Like Vice President Harris, Governor Tim Walz believes that government works to serve us," they wrote on Instagram. "Not just some of us, but all of us. That’s what makes him an outstanding governor, and that’s what will make him an even better vice president."

"Michelle and I couldn’t be happier for Tim and Gwen, their family, and our country," the couple added.

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis also showed her support for Harris' decision, sharing a picture of Harris and Walz on Instagram. "LET'S GO AMERICA!" she captioned the post.

Julianne Moore also shared the same picture as Curtis, writing, "This is such exciting news! I cannot wait to vote for this ticket @kamalaharris @timwalz Text REGISTER to 644-33 to check your voter registration to make sure you are ready to vote."

"Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill took to X to express his opinion. “With Kamala Harris & Tim Walz there’s a new sense of optimism, energy & unity. There’s a joyous feeling that we can finally put the politics of anger, resentment & divisiveness behind us & truly be the United States of America!,” Hamill wrote, adding a "Star Wars"-inspired hashtag, “#ANewHope.”

Alyssa Milano also congratulated Walz, writing on X, “You embody so many of the traits we try to instill in our kids: you’re smart, kind, thoughtful, empathetic and patriotic. Combined with your experience as a teacher, veteran, a member of Congress, and a governor, these traits will make you a great VP!”
