Actress Blake Lively took a dress out of Britney Spears' closet to show up to the "It Ends With Us" premiere in style.
Accompanied by her husband, "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds, the mother-of-four looked glowing on the red carpet in the "Toxic" singer's 2002 vintage Versace dress.
Blake Lively Took A Dress Out Of Britney Spears' Closet For 'It Ends With Us' Premiere
On Tuesday, August 6, Blake Lively channeled Britney Spears when she showed up to the "It Ends With Us" premiere in New York City wearing the pop star's vintage Versace gown. The "Circus" singer had worn the gown herself in 2002.
In an interview with Peoplemagazine, the 36-year-old explained that "It is Britney's dress," going on to joke, "It should be in the Smithsonian or the Met. But it's on me. I feel so lucky!"
The "Green Lantern" actress has been wearing many floral prints as a nod to her character Lily Bloom and the floral shop in the movie. She accessorized the brightly-colored dress with rings from Lorraine Schwartz's fine jewelry line and strappy heels.
Blake Lively Calls Britney Spears 'The Ultimate Queen'
In her Instagram Stories, the “Gossip Girl” alum called Britney Spears “The ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle and write and share our stories” with the pop star’s hit song “Everytime” playing in the background.
“Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment, or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe, with strength, and joy and immensely hard work,” Lively wrote. “Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories.”
“So excited about your Biopic and all you have to come,” she added. Earlier this month, it was announced that Britney's best-selling memoir "The Woman In Me" would be adapted for the big screen, but it has yet to be announced who will play the pop star.
Felicia Culotta, Britney's former longtime assistant and confidante, told TMZthat she would love to see "American Horror Story" alum Emma Roberts, or even Drew Barrymore, play the singer on the big screen.

People magazine posted photos of both women wearing the shimmering gown on social media, although some people felt that the publication was trying to compare the two women. “Both look beautiful. But instead of saying who wore it better watch Blake's excitement in given the opportunity to wear this lovely dress,” one fan commented. “We shouldn't be saying who wore better but praising 2 beautiful women who have great careers and had 4 kids and 2 kids. And keep uplifting other women.”
However, that did not stop social media from “stirring the pot.” Another follower asked, “I’m sorry, am I missing something? BLAKE LOOKS SO ELEGANT and definitely wins this look. Gorgeous! Both are beautiful but Blake is a timeless beauty!” A third fan chimed in, “Both look gorgeous but Britney definitely wore it better.” Other users pointed out there were probably alternations made to the dress to their height difference.
Blake Lively Loves 'Method Dressing'
Blake Lively did not walk the red carpet by herself. She was accompanied by her husband, Ryan Reynolds, with whom she shares four children. The "Free Guy" actor wore an olive green suit with a white floral boutonniere, which was a reference to Lively's character in the film. Also joining them on the red carpet was Reynolds' "Deadpool & Wolverine" costar Hugh Jackman.
"The Shallows" actress has been accessorizing her red carpet looks with flowers any way she can for her "It Ends With Us" movie premieres, which started back in June. She told Peoplemagazine that, instead of method acting, she prefers her own style of "method dressing" when promoting a project to help her get into character.
'It Ends With Us' Hit Theaters August 9
“I'm so excited method dressing is such a thing now because years ago when I did A Simple Favor, people were like, ‘Why are you dressing like your character? Why are you in suits?'” Lively told People magazine, referencing her 2018 press tour for the Paul Feig movie. “And I was like, because we have no marketing money to promote this movie.”
She went on to say, “It's a small movie and the only thing people really pay attention to at these junket interviews is the photos of fashion so if I just wear men's suits, people are going to go, 'Why is she just wearing suits?' And then they're going to go, 'Oh, because she's in a movie and she's wearing men's suits.' It's a marketing hack to try to get people to pay attention to our movie. And it worked.”
"It Ends With Us" hits theaters on August 9, 2024.
