Savannah Chrisley's mom, Julie Chrisley, is prioritizing her personal comfort amid an upcoming court hearing!
The reality star has pled with the court to make an exception for her as she prepares to hear an important verdict on her case in September.
Julie Chrisley was sentenced to seven years in prison alongside her husband, Todd Chrisley, who bagged 12 years for bank fraud and tax evasion.
Savannah Chrisley's Mom Wants To Appear On Video For Court Hearing
The reality star expressed her desire to appear at her resentencing hearing due on September 25 via video call. In the court documents, Julie declared that attending the hearing in person would cause her "undue physical hardship," hence the federal court judge should not force her.
Julie is currently serving time at a prison in Lexington, Kentucky, for her involvement in a bank fraud and tax evasion case. Julie and Todd's hopes of getting freedom were dashed recently when the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit upheld their convictions.
However, luck smiled on Julie as the court vacated her sentence due to a lack of substantial evidence linking her to the crimes that occurred before 2007. Per In Touch, the appeals court ruled that the lower court needed to re-sentence Julie based on the new development.
Details Of The Upcoming Hearing
The couple's criminal case was filed in Georgia, which is the slated venue for their upcoming court hearing.
The details of their new motion stated that the Bureau of Prison would most likely "transfer Julie via the transfer facility in Oklahoma City." Another option is to "place her in a van for a lengthy, multiple-hour trip while shackled to facilitate her appearance in court."
Whichever option the prison authorities settle for, it would ultimately involve removing the reality star from FMC Lexington for long hours and subject her to a significant amount of physical stress.
The options provided influenced Julie's request for a non-physical appearance, which the presiding judge has yet to grant, although the prosecutors have not resisted it.
The Chrisleys React To The Court's Decision To Vacate Julie's Sentencing
Julie's recent court victory did not go unnoticed by her family. Kyle Chrisley, who has reportedly not spoken to Todd in over a year, expressed his happiness for Julie.
"I'm happy for Julie, but you know it's really unfortunate that the court found the previous ruling on everything else valid," he said as he hoped his dad would pursue the Supreme Court of Appeals next.
Savannah Chrisley also gave her two cents on the issue and noted her relief that the "court recognized the mistakes" made in her mother's sentencing.
"We've been fighting so hard for this, and it gives us hope for a fairer outcome moving forward," declared the 26-year-old on her podcast.
Todd Chrisley's Appeal Was Thrown Out
The Chrisley family patriarch did not share in his wife's luck, as his own motion for resentencing was dismissed.
Court documents about the resentencing obtained by The Blast explained that the district court must address "what the proper loss amount attributable to Julie is for purpose of the base offense level, restitution, and forfeiture."
The motion continued that the district court "should make factual findings about when Julie's involvement in the conspiracy began."
The Chrisleys' legal team added that if the court findings discover Julie's involvement began in 2006, it should provide the corresponding documents on which it bases its finding.
Upon the court's agreement to review Julie's sentencing, Alex Little, their attorney, expressed his satisfaction that the court agreed that Julie's sentence was improper. He was, however, "disappointed that it rejected Todd's appeal."
Savannah Chrisley Says Parent's Release Would Fasttrack Her Goals
While Todd and Julie spend their time behind bars, the reality is different for Savannah, who has been forced to step up for her two younger siblings while fighting for her parents' release. The podcaster walked The Blast through her newly found responsibilities, declaring:
"Just trying to do it all. Raising a 17- and 11-year-old is a full-time job, but also working and trying to provide a life for them as well as fighting day in and day out with lawyers to get my parents home."
Amid all the chaos, the reality star is excited to move on to a new phase of her life as soon as Todd or Julie exit the prison gates. Savannah's top agenda includes attending law school, as she shared:
"I have told Grayson that I would do it…. If Mom and Dad both come home, then I would most certainly go back to school and try to become a lawyer."
The 26-year-old noted that it is never too late to follow her dreams, adding: "If I could be a lawyer by the time I'm 30 or 32, I might just do it."
By all metrics, September 25 will certainly go down in history in the Chrisleys' lives!
