Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been embroiled in a legal tussle over the sale of her shares in their once-co-owned Chateau Miraval winery.
A source close to Pitt has now slammed Jolie's "never-ending attacks" on the "Troy" actor following her recently filed documents, where she claimed he tried to force her to sign an NDA that aimed to keep her silent over his alleged abuse.
The former couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, are in the middle of a family crisis after their 20-year-old son, Pax, crashed his E-bike and was subsequently hospitalized.
Brad Pitt Source Accuses Angelina Jolie of 'Harming' Their 'Entire Family' By Making Legal Dispute 'Personal'
Jolie's lawyers claimed in a recent Los Angeles County Superior Court filing made on July 25 that Pitt tried to force her to sign a revised $8.5 million NDA "specifically designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up."
As the heated legal battle over their shared winery assets continues to escalate, insiders have been left angered by the "Maleficent" actress's recently filed documents, with a Pitt source alleging that she is trying to do anything to cause a "distraction."
"This was a simple business dispute, but sadly, this legal attack is just the latest example of them harming the entire family by making it personal," the source told People magazine.
"The other side is desperately and repeatedly trying to do anything to distract from the fact that it was her — and not Brad — who requested an NDA about the divorce, a fact which completely undermines the legitimacy of their never-ending attacks," the source added. "They don't want anyone to focus on the fact that she deprived the kids of their inheritance of Miraval by breaching the agreement and selling it and taking the money."
Angelina Jolie Accused Brad Pitt Of Trying To 'Silence' Her
The former couple were locked in a bitter divorce and custody battle after a September 2016 private jet incident where Pitt allegedly abused her physically in the presence of their son, Maddox.
In a recent court filing, Jolie said that Pitt wanted to silence her abuse allegations against him by making her sign an $8.5 million agreement.
In the legal document, she explained that she "was not acting with malice and the intent to hurt Pitt in response to any custody ruling."
"Instead, it was Pitt who refused to buy her interest unless he received his newly expanded NDA, enforceable by an $8.5 million holdback specifically designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up," the document read, per People.
"While Pitt advances what is effectively an outdated privacy-of-domestic-violence argument to shield his abuse, his argument is not the law, at least not in this century, and he cites no authority that would give him such unwarranted protections. In any event, he waived any privacy protections when he sued Jolie," her attorneys claimed.
Angelina Jolie's Camp Wants Her Ex-Husband To Turn In Personal Communication
Pitt originally sued Jolie in 2021 over the sale of her shares in their Chateau Miraval winery to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler for $62 million, claiming that she violated her contractual obligation to seek his consent before selling her portion of the company.
Following months of legal tussle, Jolie's team requested that Pitt submit third-party communications in his possession as related to the 2016 plane incident that led to the actress filing for divorce.
However, Pitt's lawyers pushed back in another filing, calling Jolie's request "wide-ranging and intrusive" as well as a "sensationalist fishing expedition."
Asking for the request to be denied, Pitt's attorneys say the actor "voluntarily offered to produce documents sufficient to show everything that occurred on the flight that precipitated the ex-couple's divorce" but that his "private, third-party communications" from the time of the plane incident shouldn't be relevant to their Chateau Miraval case.
"Jolie, however, wants them anyway as part of her efforts to turn this business dispute into a re-litigation of the former couple's divorce case," they noted.
Angelina Jolie Was Called Out For 'Painting Herself As The Victim'
Jolie, via her lawyer, called on Pitt to drop his lawsuit against her so that their family could "heal." However, a source slammed the actress' request, claiming she was trying to paint herself as a "peacemaker."
According to the Daily Mail, the insider said, "Angelina is asking him to put an end to the fighting as if she is a peacemaker. This is nothing more than to paint herself as the victim."
The source added, "This is not a fight. This is a business dispute over the sale of property that was ultimately going to be for their kids. It was their inheritance, and she knows this."
The Ex-Couple's Son Has Been Released From ICU After A Bike Crash
With tensions running high, the pair can seemingly breathe a sigh of relief after their son Pax was recently released from ICU following a bizarre E-bike accident he suffered last week in Los Angeles.
"Pax has been released from the ICU. He suffered complex trauma and now begins the long road of recovery and physical therapy," a source told People.
The source added that Pax and Jolie, who was by his side in the hospital, "are deeply grateful for the quick and life-saving action of first responders and the outstanding medical care he received."
