Angelina Jolie has accused Brad Pitt of attempting to coerce her into signing an $8.5 million non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to silence her allegations of abuse against him.
The former couple has been embroiled in a lengthy divorce battle and business dispute over Jolie's sale of her share in their wine business.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie recently had to deal with the emotional toll of their son Pax being involved in an electric bike accident.
Angelina Jolie Accuses Her Ex-Husband Of Trying To Silence Her
According to People Magazine, the "Maleficent" actress has alleged that her estranged husband, Pitt, tried to forcefully ensure she stayed silent about her abuse allegations against him by making her sign an $8.5 million.
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016 after she alleged that he was physically abusive towards her on a private airplane in the presence of their son, Maddox.
In a court document she filed in April, Jolie claimed that Pitt had been physical with her "well before" the plane incident even occurred.
Pitt sued her over the sale of her shares in their Chateau Miraval winery to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler for $62 million in 2021, claiming that she violated her contractual obligation to seek his consent before selling her portion.
Jolie now claims in a July 25 Los Angeles County Superior Court filing that she "was not acting with malice and the intent to hurt Pitt in response to any custody ruling."
"Instead, it was Pitt who refused to buy her interest unless he received his newly expanded NDA, enforceable by an $8.5 million holdback specifically designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up," the document read.
"While Pitt advances what is effectively an outdated privacy-of-domestic-violence argument to shield his abuse, his argument is not the law, at least not in this century, and he cites no authority that would give him such unwarranted protections. In any event, he waived any privacy protections when he sued Jolie," her attorneys claimed.
Angelina Jolie's Team Wants Brad Pitt To Submit Communication Documents
According to the Daily Mail, Jolie's camp pressed Pitt to turn over his personal communications as part of the discovery in their winery case.
The "Once Upon A Time" actor's team pushed back against her argument, labeling it a "wide-ranging" and an "intrusive" attempt to access information "about such sensitive issues as therapy he voluntarily undertook" after the plane incident.
Pitt insisted that he had been willing to present "documents sufficient to show everything that occurred on the flight" and argued in a July filing that his "private, third-party communications" from the time of the plane incident were irrelevant to the Chateau Miraval lawsuit.
Brad Pitt Is Accused Of Using Legal Battle To 'Punish' His Ex-Wife
The "Fight Club" star was accused of using their lengthy lawsuit to get back at Jolie for selling off her shares in their wine business.
A source close to the 49-year-old actress made the revelation following her allegations that Pitt wanted to make her sign an NDA, with a court ruling ordering her to produce eight years' worth of "all NDAs to which she is a party," per People.
The insider alleged that Pitt "and his team know that these NDAs are never going to see the light of day at trial," adding that their whole antics "is all for the press."
"They also know that this will force Angelina to spend resources tracking all of this information down, which is just another way to drain her resources and punish her for leaving," the source added.
The Former Couple's Son Was Involved In A Bike Accident
The pair recently had to deal with the emotional toll of having a loved one bedridden after their son, Pax, rammed his E-bike into a waiting car on the busy Los Feliz Blvd. around 5 PM in Los Angeles.
At the time of the crash, the 20-year-old was without a helmet and was rushed to the hospital for treatment after complaining of hip pain and suffering a head injury.
After the incident, it was reported that Pax was doing well and that his mother, Jolie, was by his side.
The actress adopted Pax in 2007 after he spent three years in the Tam Binh Orphanage in Vietnam. Then, in 2008, Pitt officially adopted Pax as his son. The then-three-year-old joined his elder brother, Maddox, and younger sisters, Zahara and Shiloh.
Pax is also the elder brother of twins Vivienne and Knox.
Brad Pitt Is Allegedly 'Upset' That He Can't 'Reach' Son Pax
A source told the Daily Mail that Pitt was unhappy about the situation and wondered why Pax was left to ride a bike instead of driving a car.
"Brad is distraught and worried over Pax's accident, but he is unable to reach him," an insider told the news outlet. "It is very upsetting to Brad whenever he hears of one of the kids being hurt, and he feels completely powerless because there is nothing that he can do at all."
"A father's inclination would be to go to the hospital or to call him. He's tried so many times but the kids won't take his calls. His hands are tied," the source continued.
"Brad doesn't think that Pax should be driving a scooter without a helmet, to begin with - he should have been in a car," the insider added, subtly taking a swipe at Jolie, who's understood to have been "by his side in hospital."
