Social Media Reacts to Kanye West Winning Grammy For 'Jesus Is King' Album

Kanye West has been trending heavily on social media since January as it was reported that he and Kim Kardashian would be heading for a divorce. The two had been married since 2014 but together as a couple since 2012. Kardashian ended up hiring divorce attorney, Laura Wasser. Now, Ye is back to making news for his music as heading into Sunday night, he was Grammy-nominated for his 2019 Christian-inspired album, "Jesus Is King." This ended up surprisingly being a fan-favorite project worldwide. 

"Jesus Is King" ended up taking home the award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Other nominees in this category included "Run To The Father" by Cody Carnes, "All Of My Best Friends" by Hillson Young & Free, "Holy Water" by We The Kingdom, and "Citizen Of Heaven" by Tauren Wells. Jesus Is King served as West's ninth studio album as it went on to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The singles were "Follow God" and "Closed On Sunday."

When West took home this award at the 63rd GRAMMYs, many were surprised but at the same time, people applauded for him winning this category. A lot of listeners believed that "Jesus Is King" was a solid Christian album. They also wonder why West won one after he urinated on one of his GRAMMYs last fall. It contained 11 tracks in total with additional appearances from Ty Dolla $ign,Ant Clemons, Fred Hammond, Clipse, and Kenny G. West also went viral for shouting out Chick-Fil-A on the "Closed on Sunday" single, as the fast-food chain also thanked him for it.

Jesus Is King did well commercially as it was certified gold by the RIAA in the United States. In 2020, many expected West to also release his "Donda" album, which was originally announced in July. The title is named after his late mother, who passed away in 2007. The album was supposed to be out on July 24 but that didn't happen as West has since not provided any updates as to when fans can finally expect it to be out.

Last month, it was officially revealed that Kim Kardashian would be moving forward with divorce paperwork against West. West had recently been wearing his wedding ring in hopes of a reconciliation but now, he appears to want to finally move on. It was recently reported that West has changed his phone numbers and if Kardashian wants to get in contact with him, she would have to go through his security. Regarding custody of their four children, Kardashian and West want joint custody.
