Meghan Markle's "Suits" co-star and TV father, Wendell Pierce, who initially termed her interview with Oprah as 'insignificant,' rephrased his words and explained what he meant. This came after he came under heavy criticism by online supporters.

Pierce played the role of Robert Zane on the series "Suits.” He was a renowned lawyer and father to Rachel Zane, played by Meghan Markle.

During his March 9 interview with "LBC," the actor criticized the interview with Oprah and palace gossip, terming it "insensitive and offensive in the face of the pandemic and amidst so much death." He also mentioned that about three thousand people will lose their lives to the pandemic in the US  and a couple hundred die within the hour in the UK.

Pierce Backtracks His Statement

He continued that the world is struggling with the pandemic that he once thought could result in extinction before the vaccines were developed.

After facing backlashes for his comment, Pierce tried to explain his viewpoint and reiterated that he meant the Duchess of Sussex no ill will. 

In a tweet, the 57-year-old wrote, "I just discovered my words are being used as an attack." He clarified his stance and shared that he thought the British monarchy is archaic in his American eyes.

Pierce Believes The British Monarchy Is Racist

He continued that if the slavery, colonialism, and apartheid put together couldn't  educate anyone that the monarchy is racist, anyone who believed they weren't racist failed history.

In the tweet, the "Selma" star claimed he spoke to Markle to offer her support and wish her all the best in all her endeavors.

He addalso said that he had somewhat predicted the hellacious maelstrom and assured the Duchess that she would always have a friend in him. However, this does not remove his his disinterest in the interview she had with Oprah.

In his final tweet, Pierce stated that he wasn't insensitive to suicide as he also knows what it feels like to lose someone to it. 

His remark was in reference to the revelation that Markle gave, about wanting to commit suicide amidst the British media tantrum two years ago.

During the Oprah interview, the Duchess revealed that she was ashamed to admit it to her husband, Prince Harry, because she knew how much loss he has suffered. Markle continued that accepting she was suicidal, helped her get over the thought.

Meghan Markle Was Reportedly Asked Not To Seek Help

Markle shared that she didn't want to be alive anymore and the thought of that was constant and frightening at the time of her emotional turmoil.

The former actress further revealed that the suicidal thoughts she had, began while she was pregnant with her son Archie, which made it worse for her.

Both Markle and Prince Harry then revealed that they were told that they couldn't seek professional help for the Duchess's mental health because it would look bad for the monarchy.
