Cops involved in Justin Timberlake's DWI arrest case in the Hamptons have some questions to answer following new revelations.
It is understood that a drinking buddy of Timberlake's was permitted to get behind the wheel and take the singer's car home after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated last month.
The new revelation has raised serious questions about the discretion exercised by law enforcement as Justin Timberlake's attorney, Edwin Burke Jr., tries to get the case dismissed.
Cops Permitted Justin Timberlake's Drinking Pal To Drive The Singer's Rental Car During DWI Bust
The 43-year-old singer has been embroiled in a legal tussle with law enforcement after he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons last month.
Timberlake was pulled over in Sag Harbor, Long Island, after he ran through a stop sign and allegedly swerved off his lane in his 2025 BMW.
He refused to take a breathalyzer test three times and performed poorly on the officer's sobriety test, with an arrest document stating that his eyes were "bloodshot and glassy" and a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath."
However, new developments suggest that the officers may have fumbled in their judgment and seemingly created an opening for the singer to discredit their claim.
According to TMZ, a source revealed that Timberlake was following another car with a woman and her husband.
When he was pulled over, the woman reportedly returned to the arrest scene and asked one of the cops if he was "going to arrest Justin Timberlake?"
Seeing that she wasn't making any headway in deescalating the situation, even after offering to drive the singer home, she reportedly asked the cops for permission to take his rental car home, to which they obliged.
The issue now is that the source claims the woman arrived at the American Hotel 2 hours before Timberlake and was already drinking. This means she might have been more intoxicated than Timberlake, and yet the cops let her drive off.
Justin Timberlake's Lawyer To Question Cops' Discretion
This development has now raised doubts about the cops' ability to ascertain if Timberlake was intoxicated as the singer's attorney, Edwin Burke, tries to get the case dismissed.
According to the news outlet, Burke will likely argue that the two young cops involved didn't judge the situation rightly.
He would note that they allowed the woman who had obviously been drinking to drive off with Timberlake's car but arrested the ten-time Grammy-winning singer.
Burke is expected to argue that if they were unable to evaluate Timberlake's friend who drank, they could not have efficiently evaluated the "Mirrors" crooner.
The Singer's Lawyer Argues He Was 'Not Intoxicated' During Court Hearing
Burke, in a recent court appearance, argued that the "Sexyback" singer was "not intoxicated" during his DWI arrest in an apparent effort to dismiss the charges against his client.
Timberlake was scheduled to perform in Poland over the weekend and missed the hearing in person and virtually.
However, he had nothing to worry about, as Burke took care of things, arguing that the police made some errors and Timberlake was "not intoxicated" during his arrest.
According to reports, he filed for the motion to be dismissed on the grounds of accusatory instrument defect.
The case is ongoing, and a ruling has yet to be made. As reported by The Blast, the new arraignment date has also been set for August 2, when the singer is expected to appear virtually.
If convicted, Timberlake could face penalties ranging from fines to license suspension. However, if the charges are dismissed, his reputation and driving record will remain unaffected.
Justin Timberlake Will Not Enter Rehab
According to TMZ, contrary to speculation, the "Bye Bye Bye" singer reportedly has no plans to check into rehab. Instead, Timberlake is focused on his ongoing Forget Tomorrow world tour.
Rumors of a potential rehab stint surfaced following Timberlake's arrest, as other celebrities who have been cuffed up for alcohol and drug-related charges in the past usually go to rehab to look good before the judge and get a favorable plea deal.
However, Timberlake will seemingly not follow the typical celeb playbook, turning his attention to his scheduled performances.
His next stop would see him headline two shows in Berlin, Germany, on Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31, before heading to Antwerp, Belgium, on August 3 and 4.
The Singer Is Ready To Accept The 'Consequences' Of His Actions
Timberlake has already had his driver's license suspended for a while. However, more punishment is expected after a judge rules on his DWI charge.
Timberlake doesn't plan to avoid the "consequences" of his actions whenever that happens.
A source told Entertainment Tonight, "Justin is prepared to face whatever consequences he needs to. He is hoping to learn from this experience and put it behind him."
The insider also claimed that the singer's wife, Jessica Biel, has been "extremely supportive and helping him navigate everything."
