If you've ever used a rideshare, you fully understand that you never know just how it's going to go. TikTok content creator Sammi recently took a Lyft home after a night out drinking and the events that followed really wreaked havoc on her life.

Sammi recently shared her terrifying Lyft experience in a video on TikTok in the hopes of warning other women of the possible dangers that lurk when using a rideshare.

Sammi shared a "story time" on TikTok to make others aware of what can happen in a rideshare situation.

"So I took a Lyft home the other day after drinking with some friends. I wanted to be safe and take a rideshare home. So I called the Lyft and the Lyft driver came and got me," she began her story. "Everything was normal. We barely had a conversation. I mentioned to him that I had some drinks and I shouldn't have driven home, so I called the rideshare."

After Sammi got home and got ready for bed, she got a notification from Lyft. She shared that the message was about leaving something in the car.

"I messaged the guy back 'cause I was like oh no, I think maybe I forgot something," Sammi continued. "So I text the number thinking he's just doing me a solid and telling me I forgot something and he was willing to bring it back because Lyft charges you 20 bucks."

Sammi Didn't Actually Leave Anything In The Car

The text she then received from the driver turned the situation around from something innocent and helpful to something possibly dangerous.

Sammi shared a screenshot of the message from the driver that reads, "I'm sorry didn't mean to wake you up...no you didn't leave anything just wanted to say I really liked talking to you...and if you ever need a ride or just want to talk you can text me."

Sammi didn't respond to that text, but in the morning, she noticed she was sent more texts, one that included a photo of her driver, Edwin.

"I'm not interested. I'm not trying to talk to this person," she said. "I never gave them the option of thinking it was okay. I literally just wanted a ride home."

Sammi Reported The Driver To Lyft But The Situation Just Escalated

Sammi decided to report this situation to Lyft through their chat messages and said they even responded in a "weird" way. She shared a screenshot of the messages. One reads, "Most welcome Samantha. Happy to help such a perfect person like you."

Sammi got a refund for the ride and was hoping to sweep this under the rug. It's important to note that Sammi said Lyft promised her they would keep her out of the picture, but that's clearly not what happened.

She then got a long, nasty message from an unknown number. (She had blocked the original number after reporting him to Lyft.)

"I'm terrified at this point. This guy knows where I live. I don't know what to do," she said. "I end up making a police report and the police officer that helped me was like, you're gonna have to file a restraining order."

She was also told she could press charges for a misdemeanor offense and was told to also block the number the message came from. If another message happens, she was told to let police know because a third message escalates this to "a little bit more of an assault situation."

She concluded her message by saying, "So, girlies, please be careful when you're in rideshares."

Sammi Isn't The Only One To Share Rideshare Warnings On TikTok Recently

A few months ago, another content creator shared a TikTok video about a scary rideshare situation with the warning, "Please be safe and never take a Lyft or Uber alone."

"I've never been this scared in my entire life, and I have to address it online because I need to raise awareness that these things are happening," Karina said.

She explained that she went out with some friends and took a rideshare home.

"I get into this Uber with this woman and she starts taking a super weird route. Did not make sense where she was going, but I was like maybe she's taking backstreets. I'm not sure what was happening," she said. "All of a sudden, I end up at Miami International Airport. There's no way that like that's a stop on the way to my house."

She continued by saying that she believed she was in a situation where she was about to be human trafficked.  Karina ended up getting out of the car and started running.

"Long story short, I'm home and I'm safe and God was with me today," she said. "But I wanted to share this video because you don't know who's out there and what the heck is going on, and statistically, Miami is one of the hotspots for human trafficking."

Karina's video recalling her terrifying rideshare experience quickly went viral. It currently has 10 million views and more than 10,000 comments.

Lyft dropped into the comments to say, "We’re so sorry this happened and glad to hear you are safe. We were able to locate your ride and report. We'll continue to be in touch to learn more."

Many viewers shared suggestions for staying safe while in a rideshare.

"This is why me and my dad set up Uber Teen! I'm an adult but I still use it because it automatically shares the ride with him whenever I take one! Hope this helps anyone," one person wrote.

Another viewer shared, "Remember the share location/ride setting on Uber so your friends and family can see the route you're on! Also, trust your gut- call the cops if you feel like you’re in danger."

One other person said, "This and child lock on doors is my biggest fear! I ALWAYS act like I closed my door wrong and open/close it again before we start moving to be sure!"
