Former President Barack Obama is noticeably missing from the list of those backing Kamala Harris’s presidential bid, but that could change very soon.
As The Blast reported, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, which shouldn’t come as a huge shock, given the recent rumors about his potential exit.
Following the announcement, Biden supported his Vice President, Kamala Harris, as the next Democratic candidate. This endorsement has been echoed by prominent figures such as Bill Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.
And now, according to a new source, Barack Obama is expected to endorse Kamala Harris despite recent rumors that claimed he felt that she would lose to Donald Trump.
Obama Could Still Endorse Harris Despite Recent Rumors
According to CNN anchor Jim Acosta, a source claims that former President Obama is expected to endorse Vice President Harris soon. "President Obama and Vice President Harris have been in regular touch," the source added.
This comes just hours after a different source claimed that the former President was not going to enforce Harris as he "knows she’s just incompetent."
“Obama’s very upset because he knows [Kamala Harris] can’t win," the source told the New York Post. "The border czar who never visited the border, said that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her. When you are running for president, there are things you can and can’t say."
A Source Claims That Kamala Harris 'Can't Debate'
The same source that spoke to the New York Post further claimed, "Wait until the debate… She can’t debate. She’s going to put her foot in her mouth about Israel, Palestine, Ukraine. She’s going to say something really stupid."
“Obama knew this was going to happen, Joe knew this was going to happen," they continued. "Now she is going to have to answer real questions.”
Furthermore, there have been rumors suggesting that the former president might consider entering the presidential race now that Joe Biden has stepped aside. However, the source says Obama is “furious" because "things haven’t gone his way, which is why he is not joining in the Democratic Party’s support of Harris."
Obama Issues Statement On Joe Biden's Decision To Withdraw From The 2024 Presidential Race
Shortly after Joe Biden said he would no longer run for re-election, the former President of the United States released a lengthy statement praising Biden for displaying "character again and again."
"He helped end the pandemic, created millions of jobs, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, passed the first major piece of gun safety legislation in 30 years, made the biggest investment to address climate change in history, and fought to ensure the rights of working people to organize for fair wages and benefits," Obama said of Biden. "Internationally, he restored America’s standing in the world, revitalized NATO, and mobilized the world to stand up against Russian aggression in Ukraine."
"Joe understands better than anyone the stakes in this election — how everything he has fought for throughout his life, and everything that the Democratic Party stands for, will be at risk if we allow Donald Trump back in the White House and give Republicans control of Congress," Obama added.
Joe Biden Endorses His Vice President
While Barack Obama has not yet endorsed Kamala Harris, the sitting President quickly expressed his support for the Vice President, telling the nation that his "very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President, and it’s been the best decision I’ve made."
"Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he later said. "Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."
Kamala Harris Speaks Out On Joe Biden's Endorsement
Kamala Harris later responded to the endorsement from Biden, telling America, "I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election."
"And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda," she continued. "We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win."
