'Rust' Child Actor's Mother Shares Behind-The-Scenes Photos With Alec Baldwin

Brett Ashley McMillan is the mother of Easton Malcolm, the child actor who worked alongside Alec Baldwin on the set of “Rust.”

Almost two weeks after the actor’s involuntary manslaughter trial was dismissed with prejudice, McMillan took to Instagram to share photos of her son working alongside the “30 Rock” actor on the set of the Western film.

On October 21, a gun that the 66-year-old actor went off, striking and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and hospitalizing director Joel Souza. In January 2023, both Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were charged with involuntary manslaughter. In April 2023, the charges against the "Supercell" actor were dropped, pending further investigation into the firearm and whether or not it malfunctioned.

In January 2024, charges against Baldwin were refiled. In March 2024, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to the state maximum of 18 months behind bars. In July 2024, a violation of the Brady rule prompted Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer to dismiss charges against the actor with prejudice after a crime scene tech testified that evidence related to the case was not turned over to the defense.

After the 2021 shooting, production moved to the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana, where it wrapped in the spring of 2023. Although filming on the indie Western has been completed, the film has yet to find a buyer.

Easton's mother opened a full carousel of photos with a picture of Alec Baldwin posing beside Patrick Scott McDermott and Easton. They are all wearing their Western costumes on the set at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana. "On the movie set RUST. Easton made friends for life with Patrick and Alec Baldwin has been the kindest actor we have ever worked with. Easton misses you, Alec," McMillan wrote alongside a black heart emoji.

"Thanks for being such a light and friend to him. My talented boys. Dalton appeared in the film, too (see him in picture 6 - he’s the handsome blonde)," she added. Many of the comments still called for Baldwin to be held criminally responsible for the death of Halyna Hutchins, prompting McMillan to address the late cinematographer in the comments.

Many of the comments were not focused on Alec Baldwin or her son. Instead, they reminded her that "someone died making this movie" and that the late Halyna Hutchins also left behind a son who was only a few years older than Easton.

"Every picture posted, content, and memory has Halyna Hutchins in our hearts," McMillan wrote in the comments. "She wanted this film finished and what an absolute HONOR to be a small piece of her incredible project. Nothing but love for her and her family."

Although one follower expressed that the film was "cursed" and several stated that the film should never be distributed, others felt that the movie should be released in order to honor Halyna Hutchins' memory.

In May 2023, Alec Baldwin also shared a photo showing him posing in his “Rust” costume beside Easton and his mother. “Saying goodbye to my co-star EASTON MALCOLM wasn’t easy,” Baldwin wrote in the caption. “Thanks, Brett, for sharing him with us. We love you, Easton.”

In the comments, Easton’s mother, Brett Ashley McMillan, wrote, “Thank you, Alec. When Easton said to you, ‘You have my heart,’ I melted. Your kindness and sincerity to take care of my son while he filmed with you, will never be forgotten. You are a wonderful man and my Easton Malcolm adores you! Please come back and visit your new family in Montana!”

In another Instagram post shared a few days later, the “Beetlejuice” actor shared a photo of him posing with actor Patrick Scott McDermott. “Last day on the set of RUST with this guy. A very talented actor and a lovely young man with a bright future ahead,” he wrote in the caption.

“Glad to see you getting back to it! Always loved your onscreen talent,” one fan commented. “I can’t wait to see the movie. Sending positive energy to the Baldwin family,” another follower wrote. “So glad you are able to complete this project,” a third fan added.
