The reason behind Clint Eastwood's long-time partner Christina Sandera's death has been unveiled days after her passing.
The Hollywood veteran's girlfriend took her final breath at 61 on July 18, with the "Million Dollar Baby" star confirming her death in a short but poignant statement.
While Clint Eastwood did not share any details about his decade-long lover's cause of death, her newly released death certificate solved the mystery.
Clint Eastwood's Girlfriend Died From A Heartbeat Abnormality
A source from the Monterey County Health Department revealed that Sandera's death certificate listed her immediate cause as cardiac arrhythmia.
A cardiac arrhythmia is an abnormality in the timing or pattern of the heartbeat. The Mayo Clinic notes that it can be harmless or cause life-threatening symptoms. This condition occurs when the electrical signals that tell the heart to beat don't work correctly.
In Eastwood's girlfriend's case, her death was influenced by an additional condition called Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, per The New York Post.
According to the Mayo Clinic, this condition is caused by the buildup of plaque (fats, cholesterol, and other substances) in and on the walls of the heart arteries.
Eastwood Announced His Girlfriend's Death In A Short Statement
The Blast reported earlier that Eastwood's girlfriend passed away on July 18 at 61. The Hollywood icon confirmed her death in a short statement, writing: "Christina was a lovely, caring woman, and I will miss her very much."
Breaking the news of her death without additional information was nothing new in Eastwood and Sandera's book, as the pair were known for keeping their relationship low-key.
The pair first met at Eastwood's Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in Carmel-by-the-Sea, a small town in California where he once served as the mayor. Meanwhile, Sandera, also a small-town resident, worked as a hostess at the actor's hotel.
They kept their romance under wraps but did not mind flaunting their relationship at public events. Eastwood and Sandera attended the 2015 Academy Awards as a couple, where the 94-year-old received six nominations for the "American Sniper."
Inside Eastwood's Relationship With His Longtime Partner
Unlike her famous boyfriend, Sandera avoided the public eye like a plague but always supported Eastwood's achievements. When she wasn't joining him on red carpets, she made rare appearances outdoors, like the time the couple was seen grocery shopping in June 2014.
Despite their 33-year age gap, Sandera and Eastwood proved they were here to stay with things heating up behind the scenes. In 2018, they stepped out with the 94-year-old's children at the premiere of "Mule."
Sandera also joined his family to celebrate his 90th birthday in 2020. Unfortunately, their love never led to a trip down the aisle, as Eastwood seemed unwilling to tie the knot after two divorces.
He said his first vows to model Maggie Johnson from 1953 until 1987, then married news anchor Dina Ruiz from 1996 to 2014. Eastwood fathered eight children from his marriages and other relationships.
Clint Eastwood's Daughter Paid Tribute To His Late Girlfriend
Days after Sandera's passing, The Blast reported that the "Man with No Name" star's daughter, Morgan Eastwood, addressed her death on Instagram. She honored her father's longtime girlfriend with a sweet tribute, writing:
"A devastating loss for our whole family. Thank you, Christina, for being a good partner to my dad. You will be greatly missed."
She accompanied the touching homage with a cute family portrait capturing Morgan and her husband, Tanner Koopma, being flanked by her father and Sandera. The image was taken from her June wedding, where Clint walked her down the aisle.
Inside Morgan Eastwood's European-themed Wedding
The Hollywood veteran commemorated his daughter's wedding on his ranch in California, with Eastwood family members playing active parts in the ceremony. Morgan opened up about the European-themed event in an interview, saying:
"I feel like our wedding was the perfect in-between because it was as intimate as it could be (with a huge family like mine) but still lively."
She continued, "It was just immediate family and their partners, close family friends and best friends we've known our whole lives growing up in Carmel."
Clint Eastwood and Christina Sandera's last sighting with his family was at Morgan's wedding. May the famous family find peace amid their grief.
