On Saturday, July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks aimed the AR-15 style rifle he borrowed from his father at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania, firing off around six to eight rounds. One of the bullets grazed Trump’s right ear, leaving his face bloodied.

Law enforcement revealed that Crooks was perched on a rooftop roughly 400 feet from the stage where the 78-year-old Trump was speaking, well outside the Secret Service’s security perimeter.

While a motive is still unknown, a new report claims that Thomas Matthew Crooks is somehow linked to an FBI office in D.C., though details remain elusive... for now.

Is Thomas Matthew Crooks Linked To An FBI Office?

According to MSN, the Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project has disclosed that in 2023, a cellphone associated with Crooks, the would-be Trump assassin, was found to be near an FBI office in Washington, D.C., at locations where he lived and worked.

"We found the assassin’s connections through our in-depth analysis of mobile ad data to track movements of Crooks and his associates," the group shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “For those that are tracking this type of data, we identified devices that were located at Crook’s home and his work within the past year."

The Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project Is 'Willing To Cooperate'

“We are willing to cooperate with legitimate investigations and share further information. For the protection of whistleblowers and our investigation, we will not be sharing further information with the congressional task force due to the connective tissue between that entity and FBI, [U.S. Secret Service], and other entities,” the group added in the post.

Per the report, there were at least nine devices linked to these AD-IDs.

This latest report comes days after investigators found a remote transmitter in the pocket of Crooks, which they believe is linked to the explosive devices found in the suspect's car, parked at the scene. It is also suspected that the 20-year-old planned to activate the two suspicious devices found in his vehicle, while a third device was discovered at his home.

Law enforcement reports that the devices found at both locations were constructed similarly, housed in ammunition containers, and used components that seem connected to the remote control discovered with the suspect.

According to ABC, the receivers in each device were linked to different elements that investigators think could potentially create functional devices, though their precise operation is still under investigation.

The intended purpose of these devices is uncertain, including whether they were meant to cause a significant explosion with potential harm or were designed for a less dangerous effect, such as producing smoke, fire, or a minor blast for distraction.

But that's not all because investigators also found a tactical vest in Crooks' car. However, it remains uncertain why he did not wear it during the attempted assassination of the former president. Some speculate that he might have anticipated dying in the attack.

There is no evidence to suggest that the shooter left behind any writings, suicide notes, or other materials that might explain his reasons for targeting Trump at the rally on July 13.

“We are working hard to determine the sequence of events related to the subject and his movements in the hours, days, and weeks prior to the shooting,” Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said while noting that “we’re still very early in this investigation.”
