On Sunday, July 21, President Joe Biden announced that he would be stepping down from the 2024 Presidential run against Donald Trump. The news shouldn’t come as too much of a shock, as rumors have swirled he would be dropping out for a few days now.
Hours after Joe Biden announced he would be stepping down from the 2024 Presidential run, his son, Hunter Biden, broke his silence.
Joe Biden Releases Statement Regarding His Decision To Drop Out Of Presidential Race
“I believe it is in the interest of my party and the country to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president,” Biden said on Sunday in an official letter shared to his X account, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.. “I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work."
“Let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me,” The President added. “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America."
Hunter Biden Thanks His Father In New Statement
In a lengthy statement, Hunter first thanked his father for everything he has done for the country.
"For my entire life, I've looked at my dad in awe," he began. "How could he suffer so much heartache and yet give so much of whatever remained of his heart to others? Not only in the policies he passed, but in the individual lives he's touched."
"Over a lifetime I have witnessed him absorb the pain of countless everyday Americans who he's given his personal phone number to, because he wanted them to call him when they were hurting," Hunter continued. "When their last hopes were slipping through their hands."
During his presidency, Joe Biden focused on key issues such as healthcare, climate change, racial justice, and infrastructure. He also signed the American Rescue Plan Act, which included stimulus payments, expanded child tax credits, and funding for vaccination distribution.
Hunter Biden Says Joe Biden Has An 'Unconditional Love'
The President's son then said Joe Biden's "unconditional love has been his North Star as a President, and as a parent. He is unique in public life today in that there is no distance between Joe Biden the man and Joe Biden the public servant of the last 54 years."
"I'm so lucky every night I get to tell him I love him, and to thank him. I ask all Americans to join me tonight in doing the same," he added. "Thank you, Mr. President. I love you, Dad."
As reported earlier by The Blast, Hunter Biden, the only surviving son of President Joe Biden, was on trial for three felony charges related to his 2018 firearm purchase. The allegations accused him of providing false information and unlawfully possessing the firearm due to his reported drug use at that time.
On Monday, June 10, the jury deliberated for one hour before reconvening the next morning for an additional two hours. They ultimately found Hunter Biden guilty on all three counts. “I am more grateful today for the love and support I experienced this last week from Melissa, my family, my friends, and my community than I am disappointed by the outcome," Hunter said following the verdict. "Recovery is possible by the grace of God, and I am blessed to experience that gift one day at a time.”
Vice President Kamala Harris Releases Statement
Before Hunter released a statement, Kamala Harris also spoke out, thanking the President of the United States for his endorsement.
"On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country," she began to write in her lengthy statement. "I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election."
Joe Biden Endorses Kamala Harris To Run For President
Shortly after Biden announced he would be stepping out of the Presidential run, he endorsed Kamala Harris to run instead, telling his "fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
In a follow-up post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Biden said, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.”
”Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he continued. "Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."
