The recent attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump remains front and center, with Americans eagerly anticipating further details about the gunman and the possible motive.
As The Blast reported, the tragic incident occurred shortly after Trump took the stage at a Pennsylvania rally. Gunfire erupted, prompting Secret Service agents to shield the 78-year-old former president quickly. One bullet narrowly missed his head, grazing his right ear instead.
By early the following day, the FBI had identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by the Secret Service moments after firing the first shot.
As the investigation into the motive continues, former President Trump addressed the tragic events once again at the Michigan rally on Saturday.
Former President Donald Trump Reenacts Pennsylvania Shooting
When at the Michigan rally, the first rally Trump has attended since the attempted assassination on Saturday, July 13, the former president decided to, once again, talk about the events that occurred that afternoon.
"Look at the great results that we had on immigration," he began as he pointed to the screen next to him. "Just look at the," he continued before making a "pew" noise and moving his hand next to his right ear as if imitating the gunshot that nearly missed his skull and skimmed the right side of his face at the last rally.
"If I didn't say that, and it's because we had a crane holding this massive sign, I call it the million dollar sign, it's very expensive, but that sign was very good," the 78-year-old continued. "I think I'm going to sleep with it tonight."
Trump later described what was going through his mind after the first gunshots went off. "I said 'What was that? What was that?' And then I looked and said, ''That's not good.'"
Donald Trump Recalls Pennsylvania Rally Shooting At 2024 RNC
This latest speech comes just days after the former president claimed he would not speak about the incident again, as he said it is too "painful" to talk about.
"I will tell you exactly what happened, and you'll never hear it from me a second time because it's actually too painful to tell," Trump said at the 2024 RNC on Thursday. "I went onto the stage, and the crowd [was] cheering wildly. Everybody was happy."
The Former President Recalls 'Blood All Over The Place'
Approximately ten minutes into his speech, Trump turned his head to discuss the chart that showed border crossings under his leadership.
"In order to see the chart, I started to turn like this," he continued as he demonstrated the head movement he made at that moment. "I was ready to begin [turning] a little bit further, which I'm very lucky I didn't do, when I heard a loud whizzing sound and felt something hit me really, really hard on my right ear."
"I said to myself, 'Wow what was that? It could only be a bullet.' And moved my right hand to my right ear, brought it down. My hand was covered with blood," Trump recalled. "Just absolutely blood all over the place. I immediately knew it was very serious that we were under attack."
The Secret Service Sprung Into Action Seconds After Gunshots Were Fired
"And in one movement, proceeded to drop to the ground. Bullets were continuing to fly as very brave Secret Service agents rushed to the stage and pounced on top of me so that I would be protected," the former president said at the event. "There was blood pouring everywhere, and yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side."
"If I had not moved my head at the very last instant, the assassin's bullet would have perfectly hit his mark, and I would not be here tonight," Trump continued. "We would not be together."
Shortly after the incident occurred, and after medical professionals saw Trump, he shared a statement to Truth Social, thanking The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement "for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania."
"It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country," he continued. "I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening."
Melania Trump Releases Statement On Trump Rally Shooting
In the wake of the recent shooting at a rally for former President Donald Trump, Melania Trump has spoken out about the incident.
Melania expressed her relief that her husband was unharmed, emphasizing the importance of security and vigilance at public events. "I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans. We have always been a unique union," she began in a lengthy statement. "America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one. When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron's life, were on the brink of devastating change."
She also extended her condolences to the families affected by the violence and praised the swift actions of the Secret Service.
