Ingrid Andress is earning unexpected profits from her viral rendition of the national anthem at Monday's Home Run Derby.
The "More Hearts Than Mine" hitmaker became the internet punching bag after her disastrous performance, with fans dubbing her "Francis Scott Off-Key." However, the situation took a surprising turn in her favor.
SoundCloud reps recently revealed that Ingrid Andress has gained new listeners since her MLB performance, and people have fallen in love with her music.
Ingrid Andress Gains New Fans After Her Unforgettable Off-Key Performance
Officials at SoundCloud, one of the biggest streaming giants, confirmed that Andress' songs have spiked in listeners following her national anthem performance. The number of plays on her songs has reportedly gone up around 50 percent.
SoundCloud reps stressed that Andress' songs received "over double" their usual amount of plays on Tuesday and Wednesday. Out of all her songs, fans specifically enjoy playing her 2019 hit track "More Hearts Than Mine."
The attention on Andress' breakout single is unsurprising as the song earned her the MusicRow's Song of the Year award, per TMZ. While her disastrous performance spiked the attention on her music, the moment took a toll on the singer's health.
Andress Breaks Silence On Her National Anthem Performance
Following her botched performance, The Blast reported that Andress had opened up about the situation on Instagram. She shared a statement about what went wrong and how it motivated her to prioritize her well-being.
"I'm not gonnabullsh-ty'all, I was drunk last night. I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night," Andress confessed, adding:
"I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know how rehab is. I hear it's super fun."
Andress' message sparked supportive messages from fans and celebrities, with fellow singer Julia Michaels writing, "Love you girl. I'm sorry you're going through this. And I'm sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx."
Other Artists Defend Andress' Botched Performance
Like Michaels, other country music artists echoed similar sentiments of support, with the musical duo Brothers Osborne defending Andress' subpar performance. They reminded critics about her vocal prowess, writing:
"I know everyone is here for laughs, but as someone who has seen her sing many times live, she is incredibly talented."
"Not sure what happened here, but I'd bet the farm there were huge technical problems with her monitors," Brothers Osborne speculated. Singer-songwriter Breland shared the same thoughts about Andress' talents, adding:
"I'd just like to remind everyone that @ingridandress is an amazing vocalist who I've enjoyed singing with every time I've had the opportunity. That is all."
Andress Labeled' Francis Scott Off-Key'
Critics and fans had a field day trolling Andress after her poor performance at Monday's Home Run Derby. The Blast reported that she was labeled "Francis Scott Off-Key" after Carl Lewis, a former track and field athlete.
Lewis was the first to receive the unflattering nickname after his 1993 national anthem rendition left a few eardrums bleeding. Some X users compared Andress' performance to the former athlete's botched singing, with one writing:
"That anthem brings to mind an all-time Charley Steiner moment, coming out of the Carl Lewis national anthem in the 1990s: 'Written by Francis Scott 'Off' Key.'"
"This rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Off-Key," another critic chimed. A third dropped the clip of Lewis' disastrous moment alongside the words: "Last night's anthem reminds me of the greatest clip from SportsCenter's history."
More Fans Slam Ingrid Andress' Poor Performance
The trolling continued on X, with one fan connecting Andress' terrible performance to Donald Trump's rally shooting. "Tough week to be an ear in America," the individual penned, referencing the bullet that grazed the presidential candidate's right ear.
"Saying 'ears are bleeding' will forever be associated with Trump," another X user quipped. "What a disgrace. What, was she a pinch hitter for real talent? That physically hurt to listen to," a third lamented.
While many seemed significantly disappointed by Ingrid Andress' performance, it seems several people are willing to give her another chance. Based on the increased streaming numbers of her songs on SoundCloud, she must have gained new fans or won back the old ones.
