President Biden said something similar when he addressed the nation from the Oval Office Sunday evening.

Kamala Harris Releases Statement After Donald Trump Rally Shooting
On Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harrisbroke her silence on the tragedy that occurred over the weekend, thanking law enforcement and paying tribute to Corey Comperatore, the late firefighter who lost his life in the shooting.
“As we all know, it was a heinous, horrible, cowardly act. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured," she said, per Fox, adding that she and her husband's thoughts immediately went to Melania Trump, the former First Lady. "The bottom line is, no one should have to fear for the safety of a loved one because they serve in public office."
"Our heart goes out to the family of Corey Comperatore a true hero who died protecting his family. And Doug and I, of course, are holding them close in our hearts," she said. "We are also wishing those who were critically injured that day a swift and full recovery. And we are thankful to the United States Secret Service, the first responders, and local authorities."
A Motive Remains Unknown
While the FBI has confirmed that Crooks used a semi-automatic rifle and that approximately eight shots were fired, they are still searching for the motive.
"What I would say is, is a tragic incident that occurred. We're not in a position to start second-guessing how or why or anything else at this point. Just know that it will be thoroughly investigated. If there is anyone to prosecute, that will be done and we'll move forward," Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said at a late-night news conference, per WTAE.
Law enforcement sources stated that he was positioned on top of a shed outside the security perimeter set up by the Secret Service and opened fire from approximately 400 feet away from the stage.
