Serena Williams' Husband Alexis Ohanian Reveals Shock Lyme Disease Diagnosis: 'No Symptoms'

Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams, revealed on X that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease following a comprehensive health scan.

Despite showing no symptoms, he plans to treat the disease and remains optimistic. Ohanian's diagnosis comes after attending the 2024 ESPY Awards with Williams and their daughter.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian is among celebrities like Justin Bieber and Bella Hadid to speak openly about Lyme disease.

Ohanian recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Sharing his health update after undergoing a comprehensive full-body scan, he wrote: "Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have Lyme disease."

Ohanian continued: "Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone."

He expressed his surprise at the diagnosis, noting that he spends "so little time in the wilderness and Northeast," where Lyme disease is more prevalent.

In his tweet, Ohanian revealed that one of his loved ones once had the disease and has "successfully" treated it.

"I've got a loved one who had it a few years back, showed tons [of] symptoms, etc, and just couldn't figure it out until they tested him for it and then found it (treated it successfully, too)," Ohanian said.

Despite the unexpected news, the 41-year-old remains optimistic, concluding: "Anyway, gonna grab some antibiotics — can't keep me down, tick!"

Ohanian advised his followers on the platform to consult medical professionals for any questions about Lyme disease. "Please talk to a doctor," he wrote, adding, "Do not listen to me for any health advice!"

In the comment section of Ohanian's X post, one follower noted, "#Lyme is everywhere, not just in the NE. Alexis is extremely fortunate to be symptom-free."

Another commenter added, "Feels like we're on the cusp of a new paradigm in medicine. Hopefully, these health scans quickly become cheaper and more accessible, improving or even saving many lives due to this shift to proactive health."

One person inquired, "I was under the impression that there wasn't a reliable diagnostic for Lyme. Which one did they use?"

Another follower offered encouragement, "I'm sorry that you have Lyme disease, but I know that this has probably just awakened a new way for you to become an activist and help those who do. Take care of yourself, you're one of the good ones!"

Ohanian's health update comes shortly after he attended the 2024 ESPY Awards with his wife, Williams, and their daughter, Olympia.

Williams, who hosted the event on July 11, presented numerous awards, including the Pat Tillman Award for Service to her friend, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex.

During the ceremony, Williams made headlines for taking a jab at NFL kicker Harrison Butker following his controversial graduation speech at Benedictine College in May, which addressed sensitive topics like abortion, Pride Month, and women in the workforce.

Ohanian and Williams have been married for seven years and have two daughters. Ohanian, the founder of venture capital fund Initialized Capital and co-founder of Reddit, stepped back from Reddit in 2018 to focus on other ventures, leaving the platform in the hands of its co-founders.

Ohanian joins a group of celebrities who have openly discussed their struggles with Lyme disease, including Justin Bieber, Bella Hadid, her mother, Yolanda Hadid, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, and Amy Schumer.

Yolanda Hadid and her daughter, Bella, have been vocal about their battles with the disease. In 2021, Yolanda revealed that she endured severe depression and a host of symptoms for nearly a decade, telling British Vogue, "I can't begin to describe the darkness, the pain, and the hell I lived through every day. This disease brought me to my knees."

In January 2020, Bieber shared his diagnosis after facing harsh criticism about his appearance. "While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like sh-t, on meth, etc., they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health," he explained on Instagram.
