Britney Spears‘ father Jamie Spears claims he wants the singer’s conservatorship to end despite his nasty court battle with his daughter over control of her life.
Jamie’s attorney, Vivian Lee Thoreen, is currently on a press tour speaking his praises after the bombshell New York Times documentary “Framing Britney Spears” portrayed him in a negative light. Britney has been fighting to have her dad axed as co-conservator and refuses to work until he is gone.
Despite it all, Jamie continues to fight to be in charge of his daughter’s life.
Jamie has been objecting in court to Britney’s motions asking for him to be removed. The “Toxic” singer says she fears her father and doesn’t want him around. Jamie argues he has made Britney a ton of money in the past 13 years while he managed her finances.
He claims Britney was drowning in debt and facing numerous lawsuits at the time. Jamie says due to his guidance the estate is now worth an estimated $60 million dollars.
Britney has instructed her lawyer to continue the fight against Jamie.
In the new interview, Jamie’s lawyer claims, “[Jamie] would love nothing more than to see Britney not need a conservatorship. Whether or not there is an end to the conservatorship really depends on Britney. If she wants to end her conservatorship, she can file a petition to end it.”
“Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect dad or that he would receive any ‘Father of the Year’ award. Like any parent, he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye on what Britney may want. But Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest,” his lawyer added.
Britney’s attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, refused to comment on the interview. He told CNN he “can’t comment on a pending case.”
Recently, the judge did appoint a third party, Bessemer Trust, to work alongside Jamie on Britney’s finances. He originally put up a fight over who had the right to invest Britney’s money. A judge shut down the motion he brought on the matter.
Jamie’s lawyer claims, “Jamie never contested or objected to Bessemer being appointed as his co-conservator.”
She added, “And at the last hearing, it was reported that Jamie was trying to get more power than his co-conservator, and that is completely inaccurate. What we were arguing is that Jamie and his co-conservator should have equal power, that was always consistent.”
