Over the weekend, shortly after the Donald Trump attempted assassination, Tenacious D celebrated Kyle Gass's birthday.
As The Blast reported, Jack Black surprised his Tenacious D bandmate when performing at the ICC Sydney Theatre with a birthday cake. "Make a wish," the actor told Gass, who then blew out the candles. "Don’t miss Trump next time," he said, prompting nationwide backlash.
Following the controversy, Kyle Gass not only issued an apology for his remarks about Donald Trump, but his talent agency dropped him.
Kyle Gass Breaks Silence On Donald Trump Dark Joke
On Tuesday, the Tenacious D bandmate, who plays guitar and provides vocals in the band, broke his silence on his viral incident by issuing a brief apology on social media.
"The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone," he wrote on social media. "What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
Shortly after Gass issued his apology, The Hollywood Reporter learned that his agent at Michael Greene’s talent agency, Greene Talent, dropped him. The publication also reported that Australian Senator Ralph Babet demanded that the pair's visas be revoked and for them to be deported from the country after the viral clip circulated online.
Jack Black Announces Tenacious D Tour Is Now On Hold
Tuesday morning, Jack Black released a statement about the viral incident, which was shared with The Blast.
"I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," he said. "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."
Donald Trump Grazed By A Bullet At Pennsylvania Rally
At a rally on Saturday, July 13, chaos erupted when Donald Trump was hurriedly escorted off stage following an assassination attempt.
As The Blast reported, gunshots rang out moments after he took the stage, prompting Secret Service agents to quickly shield the 78-year-old and seek cover behind the podium. Blood was visible on his right ear as he was evacuated to safety.
Hours after the shooting, Donald Trump took to social media to release a statement, first thanking the United States Secret Service and all of law enforcement "for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania."
"Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country," Trump continued. "I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
Shooter Identified In Attempted Assassination Of Donald Trump
Shortly after the incident, the FBI identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was a 2022 graduate of Bethel Park High School and from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, a predominantly white city located in the southern part of the greater Pittsburgh area.
Crooks used a semi-automatic rifle, and approximately eight shots were fired at the rally on Saturday.
Joe Biden Breaks Silence On Donald Trump Rally Shooting
Hours after learning of the attempted assassination of his 2024 Presidential Election opponent, Joe Biden addressed the nation.
"I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania. I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well. I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information," he wrote in a social media post.
"Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There's no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it," he added.
