One day after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, Kyle Gass of Jack Black's band Tenacious D made a dark joke about the rally shooting.
Over the weekend, chaos broke out at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania when several gunshots were fired just after the former president took the stage. One of the bullets grazed Trump's right ear, resulting in a bloodied face. While the former President survived, one spectator died, and two others were severely injured.
The following day, Jack Black surprised his Tenacious D bandmate, Kyle Gass, when performing at the ICC Sydney Theatre with a birthday cake. "Make a wish," Black said. After Gass blew out the candles, he remarked, "Don’t miss Trump next time," which elicited a mixed response from the audience.
Jack Black released a statement early Tuesday canceling the rest of their tour, and now Kyle Gass has issued a statement following the backlash he received for making a dark joke about the Donald Trump rally shooting.
Tenacious D Bandmate Gets Slammed By Social Media
Following the video's circulation on social media, Gass has faced criticism for his comment regarding the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
"Disgusting and so vile," one individual said in an X post as another chimed in, "Any career he had left is out the window."
A third said, "Wow, pure evil."
Conservative influencer Chris Loesch also released a statement: “I used to love Tenacious D and thought Jack Black was funny. None of them or their music/movies will ever be played in our home again. Ever. Sickening. Not funny and done in a foreign country is even worse.”
Kyle Gass Calls Donald Trump Joke A 'Terrible Mistake'
Kyle Gass apologized for his comment on social media on Tuesday.
"The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone," he wrote. "What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
Jack Black Puts Tenacious D Tour On Hold
This statement comes moments after Jack Black announced the Tenacious D tour has been put on hold.
"I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," the actor said in a statement provided to The Blast. "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."

"We’re still very early in this investigation," he later added.
