In January, Drake fans received bad news as he revealed that his sixth studio album, “Certified Lover Boy,” would not be releasing that month. The announcements were posted to his Instagram feed 20 days into the month as fans were already skeptical about the album‘s possible January release.
“I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery,” Drake wrote in his story. “I’m blessed to be back on my feet feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January.”

Drake Announced Original ‘CLB’ Album Release Date In October
On Drake‘s birthday in October, that’s when he revealed that “Certified Lover Boy” would be out in January. No exact date was specified but it definitely had fans marking their calendars. This is set to be Drake’s sixth studio album and his first one since summer 2018’s “Scorpion.” He also said the album would be out last summer but that plan suffered a delay as well. Now, it’s completely unexpected when CLB will finally be released but the anticipation is still on.
Drake Is Still Receiving Tons Of Streams As The Wait For The Album Continues
In the meantime, fans are still playing some of their favorite Drake records as the wait for “Certified Lover Boy” is still on. Drake has reportedly reached over 500 million Spotify streams as of February 1. This is seen as due to Drake still being one of the most popular artists in the world as well as fans anxiously awaiting the CLB album. These streams will likely continue to pile up heavily all the way until and especially after the project is finally available.
Drake Dominated In 2020
Drake is taking his time with “CLB” and his knee rehab and this is deserved. He put out plenty of music all year in 2020. In January, he was part of Future‘s “Life Is Good” single which is now 8x platinum. Drake put put his own singles such as “Chicago Freestyle” feat. Giveon, “When To Say When,” and the chart-topping single, “Toosie Slide.” May 1 saw Drake release his “Dark Lane Demo Tapes” mixtape and in August, he also put out another hot record in “Laugh Now Cry Later” feat. Lil Durk.
