Matt Damon Has Allegedly Told Ben Affleck 'Relapse Is Not An Option' Amid Marital Woes

Ben Affleck has the support of his friend Matt Damon amid his ongoing marital troubles with his wife, Jennifer Lopez.

According to reports, Damon is keen on Affleck not picking up an alcohol habit again and has told the "Batman" star that "a relapse is not an option."

Matt Damon has also allegedly devised some plans to help keep his best pal, Ben Affleck, sober.

Affleck and Damon are known to share a deep and enduring friendship rooted in their childhood together in Boston.

Over the years, the two have collaborated on several movies, including the classic "Good Will Hunting," which they co-wrote and co-starred in. In 2022, they launched a film production company, Artist's Equity.

When Affleck grew addicted to the bottle, which worsened amid the actor's marital troubles with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, Damon reportedly helped him quit the addiction.

Now, it has been reported that Damon is taking on that supportive role again to help Affleck stay sober amid his split from Jennifer Lopez, whom he married two years ago.

"Matt's No. 1 priority right now is keeping Ben out of trouble," a source told In Touch. "The last thing anyone wants is for Ben to turn to alcohol again. Matt has straight out told him that relapse is not an option."

Damon's concerns about Affleck's sobriety come after reports that he advised his friend about reuniting with Lopez.

Affleck and Lopez had first dated for two years before splitting in 2004 and pursuing other relationships. They rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in a high-profile wedding in 2022.

While fans were happy to see the Bennifer duo back together again, Damon was worried that it would be another failed attempt.

"Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with JLo that this could happen," a source told the Daily Mail. "Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split, and he felt like this would happen again."

They added, "Ben spent so much time focusing on JLo's projects just like he did the first time around. He told Ben, 'What has she ever done for your career?'"

With all signs pointing to a potential divorce between Affleck and Lopez, Damon is believed to have made some moves to help his friend stay sober.

According to a close source who spoke to In Touch, Damon has been "pushing [Affleck] to stay super close" to his ex, Garner, and their three kids: Violet, Fin, and Samuel.

He believes Garner has "always been a calming influence" on the Oscar winner, hinting that Affleck might need her help to remain anchored to his sobriety.

The insider also claimed that Damon is set to work with Affleck on a new film project to keep him busy during these tough times.

They said, "He's also agreed to co-star with Ben in a new crime thriller called RIP. Anything to keep him from having idle time on his hands."

While it is unclear when a divorce will be filed, Affleck and Lopez have begun living as if it has been finalized.

Recent reports have revealed that Affleck and Lopez have lived apart for months. The duo has reportedly put the mansion up for sale and sold some of its art and decor.

It is understood that Affleck moved out of the house amid their marital crisis and rented a small residence close to Garner and his kids. The actor has also been absent from major events in Lopez's life, such as the recent Mat Gala, which the "Maid in Manhattan" actress co-chaired a few months back. He also pulled a no-show at the debut of her sci-fi Netflix movie, "Atlas," leaving the actress to walk the red carpet alone.

Meanwhile, Lopez also hinted at their split after she was seen liking a social media post on healthy versus unhealthy relationships. "You can't build a relationship with someone who is disconnected from themselves," read the Instagram post, per Page Six.

According to TMZ, Lopez and Affleck officially listed their marital home for $68 million. This bold move comes as they attempt to offload the recently renovated 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom estate.

The 38,000-square-foot property boasts numerous recent upgrades and improvements made over the past four months.

Though the couple initially tried to sell the mansion discreetly, they have now chosen to take it to the public market.

Affleck and Lopez, who got married in 2022, bought their Beverly Hills mansion in 2023  for just over $60 million after more than two years of searching.

Despite their efforts to find the perfect home, they're now listing it for $68 million. However, they're unlikely to make a significant profit due to the recent renovations and the mansion tax in L.A., which could eat into their potential gains from the sale.
