Christina Fulton has finally opened up about her physical altercation with her son, Weston Cage, after his arrest for felony assault with a deadly weapon.
She revealed that Weston, whom she had with actor Nicolas Cage, "brutally assaulted" her and left her with severe injuries while she was trying to help him during a mental health breakdown.
Weston has had issues with the law before, such as his DUI and hit-and-run charge.
Nicolas Cage's son has also battled with sobriety before and shared his hard journey to sobriety, which began after a 2012 hospitalization due to a severe withdrawal.
Christina Fulton Addresses Physical Assault Incident Involving Son Weston Cage
Fulton has broken her silence on son Weston's arrest and charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon.
The son of famous actor Nicolas Cage was arrested on July 10th in Los Angeles after turning himself in to police and was later released on a $150,000 bail.
After his arrest became public news, Fulton released a statement on the truth of the incident.
She said, "On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help. When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage."
According to Fulton, she was "brutally assaulted" by Weston while trying to help him and suffered severe injuries during the assault. She also said, "As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston's ongoing mental-health crisis. It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs."
Nicolas Cage's Ex-Wife Says 'I Have Always Supported My Son'
In an earlier statement, Fulton said she and her son "had no argument prior to the incident."
"On Sunday April 28th, I was reached out to by several of Weston's best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis," the actress continued. "Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience."
Fulton further explained at the time that she loves Weston and only wants to help him as he works on his mental health.
She added, "I have always supported helping my son with mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs."
Weston Cage Was Charged With Two Counts Of Assault
A rep of the Los Angeles Police Department spoke to People magazine and confirmed that Weston's arrest was due to the incident of assault against his mother at her Los Angeles home.
They said, "During the incident, Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injury. LAPD responded, and after meeting with all parties, a police report was completed."
According to the police statement, the case against Weston was brought to the District Attorney's office on May 10th.
The "Lord of War" actor has now been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Back in May, the police had revealed that they'd taken a battery report after the April 28th incident.
Nicolas Cage's Son Has Had Previous Altercations With The Law
Weston has had run-ins with the law in the past. He was previously arrested and charged with a DUI and a hit and run and also suffered from severe substance abuse issues. The DUI incident reportedly involved Weston hitting many cars, road signs, and mailboxes on the road before slamming his vehicle into a tree.
In 2011, Weston was also charged with domestic violence after a dispute with ex-wife Nikki Williams turned violent.
According to TMZ, Williams allegedly broke a bottle and used it to cut Weston on the arm, punched him severally, and threatened to throw herself off their balcony.
Weston has also opened up about his battles with mental health issues in the past. The actor was previously hospitalized and put on a psychiatric hold at a medical center in Los Angeles. This was because of a violent incident with his former personal wrestling coach and caregiver, Kevin Villegas.
Weston Cage Speaks About His Sobriety Journey
During an interview with People Magazine, Weston previously opened up about his journey to sobriety.
The "The Night They Came Home" actor talked about forcing himself to quit drinking cold turkey after being hospitalized in 2012 due to the effects of a severe withdrawal. This was after downing multiple cases of beer, liquor, a box of wine, and pills every day for a long time.
During the interview, Weston shared that his then-wife giving birth to his first son really motivated him during his recovery.
He said, "Having the combination of Danielle and Lucian and my father in my life, just that trinity right there, basically is going to keep me here. It got to the point where people thought I was digging my grave. Lucian's saved both of our lives, and we are very blessed to have him. It's just a very joyous time right now."
