Bobby Shmurda was finally released on February 23 after spending almost seven years in prison. The Brooklyn rapper was originally incarcerated for weapons and conspiracy charges. Bobby's close friend and fellow Brooklyn rapper, Rowdy Rebel, came home in December after doing six years. Bobby took seven years in order for Rowdy to avoid 12 years. This was a move that was saluted all over hip-hop and applauded Bobby as a real friend. Now, Bobby is just as hot as he was when he turned into a star in 2014.
Shmurda Spoke With Nipsey Hussle One Last Time A Month Before His Death
Shmurda spoke to GQthis week in a new interview already and one of the topics was how he knew the late Nipsey Hussle. Bobby revealed that he spoke four or five times in total with him, as one of the conversations was one month before Nipsey was shot and killed in his hometown of Los Angeles in March 2019 in front of his The Marathon Clothing store.
“I only had four or five conversations with cousin. His mind was different. He was saying all the things we were going to do when I got out.”
Bobby Discussed Unpleasant Time In Prison And Motivation From It
Bobby also spoke with GQregarding his very long prison stint. He compared being locked up there to being an animal in a cage and feeling like a "monster" from a mental health perspective. Now, he plans on using that pain in prison to motivate him to win big even more.
“You’re like an animal in a f*cking cage. And you're mentally a monster. Physically a monster. Spiritually a monster. They aren't going to know what to do with you. I know what y'all like. I know what y'all don't like. Y'all don't like to see young, Black rich n*ggas. So I'm going to get real rich on y'all. I'm going to make it legit, though. They want to see you n*ggas back selling crack. You know what I mean? Going to jail and sh*t. And I'm going to make it legit now.”
Bobby's Streams Have Increased Tremendously Since Coming Home
The support was definitely evident regarding Bobby's music once he was released as well. Fans began to play his hits from his breakout 2014 year such as "Hot N*gga" and "Bobby B*tch." According to Chart Data, Bobby's catalog has gone up 624% in on-demand streams in the United States. This huge increase in sales gives a lot of nostalgia from seven years ago when Bobby first achieved his stardom before suffering a major roadblock with his incarceration for the next seven.
Bobby Received Three RIAA Certifications On The Day Of His Release
Bobby received even more great news on the day of his release. That was that he received three new certifications from the RIAA. These were all for the music he put out in 2014. The "Hot N*gga" single is now 5x platinum, the "Bobby B*tch" single is platinum, and Bobby's debut EP, "Shmurda She Wrote," is now gold. Hot N*gga is still his most popular record to this day as it originally peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
