Many Wingstop fans believe that one particular flavor, which has appeared on the menu three times since 2022, should become a permanent offering.
On Tuesday morning, Antetokounmpo shared the news that they wanted to hear - Hot Honey Rub is now a permanent menu item!
"Ooooh...It's getting spicy, It's getting hot," Antetokounmpo said in a video shared on Instagram. "Hey guys, I got you, relax, I got you. I made a few phone calls at Wingstop. They saw my tweet, they read your comments. Hot Honey Rub is here to stay, it's going to be permanent on the menu."
Fans Are Excited About Hot Honey Rub Being A Permanent Menu Item!
Antetokounmpo's video on Instagram captioned, "WE DID IT!! @Wingstop is making Hot Honey Rub PERMANENT because you blew up the comments. Let’s goooo!" received tons of positive comments from excited Wingstop customers. At the end of the video, Antetokounmpo calls to his wife Mariah, "Let's go grab some wings, please!"
Wingstop dropped into the comments to point out, "Mariah’s been ready." Many others also left comments about the "hot" announcement. "I love hot honey...now I gotta try it," one person wrote. Another added, "Thank you my GOAT."
Adding Hot Honey Rub to the permanent menu was something Wingstop couldn't avoid thanks to fans, including Antetokounmpo.
"We were flooded with Hot Honey Rub fandom since the flavor debuted. Constant pleas on social, handwritten letters, voicemails, and even a call from Giannis," Melissa Cash, Wingstop's Chief Brand Officer said.
"We set a very high bar for the flavors that make our permanent lineup, but the popularity of this flavor speaks for itself. It was time that we show love to our fans and give Hot Honey a permanent spot on the menu."
Giannis Antetokounmpo Jumped At His Shot For Free Wingstop During The NBA Season
Earlier this year during a regular season Bucks game, footage was released that showed Antetokounmpo rushing to get his phone to scan the QR code for free Wingstop wings when the opposing team missed their free throws. The clip doesn't show the outcome, which was the Bucks star not being quick enough to cash in on the free wings deal.
Three weeks after that game, Antetokounmpo shared a video on Instagram revealing that he finally got some Wingstop wings.
"You know I can't go nowhere without my lemon pepper wings, baby," he said in the video. "I got 'em! Some people have them for lunch. I have them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, baby."
Wingstop Has Previously Teamed Up With A Few NBA Teams
Partnering with Antetokounmpo wasn't the first time Wingstop got in on some NBA action. According to a Wingstop representative, the wing giant has an official basketball sponsorship with a few NBA teams, as well as some local brand partners.
"Wingstop has official basketball sponsorships with the L.A. Lakers, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and Chicago Bulls, and local Wingstop Brand Partners in Milwaukee run a special promotion with the Bucks where if the opposing team misses two free throws in a row in the fourth quarter, the arena wins five free wings, making moments like Giannis and his viral QR code snapshot possible," a representative for Wingstop told The Blast in February.
"Bulls and Pistons fans can look forward to promos tied to scoring outcomes and Knicks and Lakers fans can indulge in custom limited-time-only flavors in their markets throughout the season."
