Ashley Judd Nearly Lost Leg In Fall, Thanks Congolese Brethren

Ashley Judd just got into a major tangle halfway across the world, got an injury that could rival a pirate's, and played the heroine, stoically, bearing the pain till she could be taken to medical help - the kind that would put even onscreen heroines in pasty light as compared to Judd. 

And it happened because she happens to love Bonobos, and is all for their conservation and protection. So on a jungle trip, Judd had an accident, and its only fortitude that saved her, and her leg...

So this is the picture Ashley Judd started off with a couple of days back, and if this weren't alarming enough, here's a bit of the text that accompanied it, "Friends. Without my Congolese brothers and sisters, my internal bleeding would have likely killed me, and I would have lost my leg."

Apparently, Judd tripped over a tree root and broke her leg, rather spectacularly, in four different places. 

And then, it was a long, arduous, and decidedly painful journey to get to medical help in Congo itself. All for the love of Bonobos.

Like all heroines, Judd also had nothing but words of gratitude for all those who helped her along the way, as she continued to say, "I wake up weeping in gratitude, deeply moved by each person who contributed something life-giving and spirit salving during my grueling 55-hour odyssey."

The X-ray of her leg bone is certainly horrendous enough and shows a whole lot of screws holding the bones together, considering she had lost the pulse in the leg, and for now, can only move with the aid of a walker. 

Her appreciation for her Congolese brethren is plain for all to see.

Many well wishes and speedy recovery messages continued to pour in for Judd as she also wrote, "I arrived to them from DRC in terrible shape and my leg had no pulse. I desperately needed a blood transfusion. Their sisters (nurses) are exemplary, technically top-notch, and they cared for the trauma in my body as well as my soul with equal proficiency."

Wrote a fan, "As I read this all I can think of is your speech at the DC Women’s march... You empower even in your weakest moments. ?"

The good news is that the road to recovery has begun and Judd is getting better every day, especially now that she is back in America, yet again after a 22-hour journey. She remains grateful to everyone who helped her through it all... 

Ashley then ended her post with, "Thank you for your care and kind words.  Let us always remember those without insurance.  Let us remember those who do not have choices. Let us remember those who are lonely and afraid."
