Tom Cruise and his daughter, Suri Cruise, remain estranged, with the actor's recent absence from her graduation further highlighting their strained relationship.

According to new reports, Cruise is to blame, having "chosen not to see" her over the last decade despite her mother, Katie Holmes, not keeping him from contacting Suri.

This comes after Suri dropped Tom Cruise's last name in favor of her mother's middle name and used it during her graduation ceremony.

Cruise and Suri's estrangement became even more evident last month when the teenager celebrated her graduation from her New York high school.

The actor pulled a no-show at the milestone event, leaving Suri to mark the celebration with her "proud" mother, Holmes, and fellow graduates.

Hours later, Cruise was seen having fun at a Taylor Swift concert in London, seemingly unfazed by missing one of the most important events in his daughter's life. He also didn't make any statement on his social media pages, which only confirmed that he might have chosen not to attend.

With questions being raised about who is to blame for the duo's estrangement, it was recently reported that the fault lies with Cruise's behavior towards his daughter over the past decade.

Cruise was last seen in public with Suri in 2012, when the two were spotted visiting Disneyland together.

That same year, things went downhill for the "Mission Impossible" star's relationship with Holmes, as she filed for divorce, a move that surprised the actor.

Later on, it came to light that Holmes wanted to protect her daughter from Cruise's Scientology religion as she believed it could negatively impact Suri.

With the marriage over and Cruise no longer being able to make decisions about Suri's religion, it is believed that Cruise decided to cut off his daughter as his religion reportedly mandates not being in contact with loved ones who do not share in their beliefs.

Rumors have swirled that Cruise continued to provide financial support for Suri through child support payments to her mother despite not being in contact with her all these years.

However, Suri's recently publicized actions suggest that the teenager feels the payments are insufficient to compensate for his years of seemingly avoiding his other fatherly duties.

She recently took the decision to drop her father's last name in favor of her mother's middle name, Noelle, as a tribute to her mother, who was left with the role of raising her in the absence of Cruise.

"She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name," an insider said about the name change,  adding that using the new name will help her blend in at college, per Page Six.

The same source claimed that Suri "wants her own identity" to live by, one that is not connected to her absent father as she blossoms into adulthood.

Having turned 18 in April, Suri now has the right to legalize her new name if she wants to. It is unclear whether she has done so, but from all appearances, she isn't waiting for that to happen before she publicly embraces the new name.

Earlier in the year, the new name was spotted on the casting sheet of her high school play, "The Addams Family: A New Musical," in which she starred as Morticia Addams.

At the teen's recent graduation from LaGuardia High School, the ceremony pamphlet also included the new name.

The 18-year-old was also called up with her name to receive her diploma after being spotted a few seconds earlier seemingly whispering it to the person in charge of the roll call.

Cruise's estrangement from his daughter is a sad ending to what began as a fairytale back in 2006 when the "Top Gun" actor confessed to Vanity Fair that he "always wanted to be a father."

"I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I'd never make a promise to my kids that I couldn't keep," the movie star said at the time.

He added, "I'm not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There's just no way."
