Joe Biden Doubles Down On Presidential Debate Performance: 'I Almost Fell Asleep'

President Joe Biden has again addressed his lackluster performance at CNN's presidential debate against Donald Trump.
The 46th President of the United States blamed his underwhelming debate night on his tight schedule, assuring voters that his lack of energy had nothing to do with his abilities as a ruler.
The recent comments come at the heels of Joe Biden's previous explanation about his performance and jabs with his biggest opponent, Donald Trump.
Joe Biden Blames Long Flights For Dull Debate Performance
Biden opened up about his presidential debate performance on Tuesday during a campaign fundraiser in McLean, Virginia. He claimed he was running on fumes for the big night after enduring long trips in the weeks before the June 27 event.
These long flights included a trip to France in the first week of June and a big fundraiser in Los Angeles on June 15. Although the POTUS spent a week preparing for last Thursday's debate at Camp David, he confessed it wasn't enough, saying:
"I decided to travel around the world a couple of times ... shortly before the debate ... I didn't listen to my staff ... and then I almost fell asleep on stage."
Biden assured the crowd that his words weren't excuses but an explanation for his lackluster performance. He apologized for not being in top shape for the debate and implored supporters to help him beat Trump at the ballot box, per TMZ.
Biden Admits He 'Doesn't Debate As Well As He Used To'
This isn't the first time Biden has addressed his subpar debate, as The Blast reported he admitted his performance was disappointing during a rally in North Carolina. In his words:
"Folks, I don't walk as easy as I used to, I don't speak as smoothly as I used to, I don't debate as well as I used to."
The POTUS seemingly took a shot at Trump, who has been accused of lying to voters in recent months, adding: "But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong."
Biden stressed that he remains the right man to lead the US despite his hiccups, saying: "Folks, I give you my word as a Biden, I would not be running again if I didn't believe with all my heart and soul I can do this job because, quite frankly, the stakes are too high."
Biden And Trump Exchanged Jabs After The Debate
During his speech at the rally, Biden could not help but jab at Trump, describing him as a "genuine threat" to the nation. "He's a threat to our freedom, he's a threat to our democracy, he is literally a threat to everything America stands for," the 81-year-old claimed.
The POTUS urged voters to choose him, stressing that his opponent shouldn't be let anywhere near the White House. "The choice in this election is simple: Donald Trump will destroy democracy; I will defend it," Biden declared.
Meanwhile, Trump seemingly slammed Biden for a golf argument that came up during their debate. The Blast shared that he posted a viral 2023 clip on his Instagram page, showing him striking a golf ball edited to hit his competitor's head and trip him.
The captionless video became a hit with Trump supporters, with many finding Biden's infamous fall at the Air Force Academy hilarious. "Trump's the funniest. You are the man," an Instagram user penned, while another declared, "We need a presidential golf tournament."
Barack Obama Defends Joe Biden's Lackluster Performance
Biden's subpar debate performance resonated with former president Barack Obama, whom The Blast reported spoke out in the 81-year-old's favor following the event. The latter expressed his support on X with a sympathetic message, writing:
"Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself."
Obama continued to bash Trump as the wrong choice, claiming the election was: "Between someone who tells the truth, who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit."
Obama's Message Received Mixed Reactions
Obama doubled down on his support for Biden by concluding his message with a link to the latter's campaign alongside the words, "Last night didn't change that, and it's why so much is at stake in November."
However, his tweet received mixed responses from X users, with many branding Obama as Biden's "puppet master." One of such conspiracy theories read:
"Barack Obama will continue pulling the strings for Joe. That's what he's saying here. Which is ridiculous considering how Joe has clearly fallen apart and isn't fit to serve."
Meanwhile, Obama's supporters echoed his message, with someone writing, "Exactly! I'm an Independent voting for Joe Biden, and one debate isn't going to change my support. I've seen what he's capable of and the results he's delivered. I will not waiver from fighting for what's at stake!"
