Olivia Culpo Revealed A Church Wedding 'Was Number One Priority'

In an interview with Vogue, the model shared that she and her husband prioritized having their wedding in a church. "That was our number one priority," she told the publication.

The 32-year-old explained that the religious significance of the ceremony heavily influenced the design of her dress, as she felt that nothing available off-the-rack matched her vision for her dream dress.

Culpo noted that she wanted her gown to reflect the gravity of the commitment, explaining: "It's a covenant. It's the beginning of the rest of your life – and it's the union and bond of two people forever. I wanted something that felt as serious as that commitment."

She continued: "I didn't want it to exude sex in any way, shape, or form. I wanted it to feel effortless and as if it's complimenting me, not overpowering me. There's so much beauty and simplicity."

Culpo's wedding dress was a beautifully crafted long-sleeve ballgown, which featured minimal embellishments and was paired with a stunning 16-foot veil.

Olivia Culpo's Fans Criticize Her Modest Wedding Gown For Being 'Boring' And 'Overpowering'

After sharing stunning snaps of her wedding dress, fans took to social media to criticize Culpo, claiming that her modest approach to creating her gown left it looking a little "plain" and "boring."

One person commented, "Sorry, I don't love the dress. I thought she would pick lace and more fitted. This is way too old-fashioned for her taste."

Another wrote, "I usually love her style, I wish there would have been a little more of something on this dress though. Am I the only one?"

A third fan noted, "This is definitely overpowering. Long sleeves and so poofy LOL it's summer why long sleeves [?]."

"Nuns at the convent have more fashion sense … This is not modest. This is just boring and has 0 imaginations. Literally, any dress in any bridal shop would have been better," a fourth person claimed.

However, several fans slammed the detractors for commenting on Culpo's dress on her wedding day.

One such comment read, "This is a woman on her wedding day. Why are people being so rude? It's her choice of wedding dress that she loves, if you don't love it then don't comment. I bet the majority of people who have posted negativity on this post couldn't dream of looking this good, ever."

"Congratulations to Olivia and her husband, she looks beautiful," they added.

The former Miss Universe revealed that she kept her husband in mind while designing her dress.

She shared that the San Francisco 49ers star running back's preferences influenced her choice, stating: "When I think about Christian and what he loves and the moments that he thinks that I'm most beautiful, it's absolutely in something like this: timeless, covered, and elegant."

The blushing bride reiterated this sentiment during her final fitting in Milan, Italy, just before the wedding.

"This is the first and last and only wedding dress I've ever tried on. I didn't try any other silhouettes, I didn't try any other styles. I knew exactly what I wanted, and I'm so happy," Culpo said.
