Former President Barack Obama has thrown his support behind President Joe Biden after his lackluster performance at the first presidential debate with Donald Trump.
Obama took to social media to claim that "bad debate nights" happen, adding that Biden is the man to vote for because he has "fought for ordinary folks his entire life."
On Thursday, Joe Biden shocked many with his debate prowess as he struggled to put out coherent sentences while sparring with Donald Trump.
Barack Obama Shows Support For Joe Biden After Debate
On X (formerly Twitter), Obama showed his support for his former Vice President, Biden, noting that the 81-year-old's "bad debate night" shouldn't be a reason not to vote for him during the November elections.
"Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself," Obama wrote.
He continued, "Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn't change that, and it's why so much is at stake in November."
At the end of Obama's tweet was a link to a website for the Biden campaign.
Barack Obama's Tweet Is Met With Mixed Reactions
Obama's tweet about Biden's performance was met with mixed reactions, with many branding the ex-president as Biden's "puppet master."
One person alleged, "Barack Obama will continue pulling the strings for Joe. That's what he's saying here. Which is ridiculous considering how Joe has clearly fallen apart and isn't fit to serve."
Another commented, "If you were really a friend of Joe, you would have a serious discussion with him about stepping-aside and allowing someone else to run as the Democratic candidate. Allowing him to peacefully retire to his family home in Delaware."
However, among the criticisms, many agreed with Obama, stating that one bad debate night has not changed their minds about voting for Biden.
One such comment read, "Exactly! I'm an Independent voting for Joe Biden, and one debate isn't going to change my support. I've seen what he's capable of and the results he's delivered. I will not waiver from fighting for what's at stake!"
Barack Obama Helped Joe Biden At A Recent Fundraiser
Obama's recent remarks come after he helped host a record-breaking fundraiser for Biden in Los Angeles on Saturday, which was attended by several A-list celebrities.
However, the fundraiser was not without its controversy, as Biden was accused of freezing during the event.
He appeared to freeze on stage while waving to a crowd loudly applauding for him. The president's questionable pause was interrupted when Obama came to his side, seemingly guiding him off the stage.
The controversial moment was captured in a video that went viral on social media.
Joe Biden Admits He Does Not Debate As Well As He Used To
Biden: I know I’m not a young man… I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to get things done. When you get knocked down, you get back up pic.twitter.com/sBzv3HLjyB

After his shocking performance during his debate with Trump, President Biden gave a rousing speech at a rally in the battleground state of North Carolina.
During the speech, Biden, who looked more energetic and vibrant than he did during his face-off with Trump, admitted to the crowd of supporters that he no longer debates as well as he used to.
"Folks, I don't walk as easy as I used to, I don't speak as smoothly as I used to, I don't debate as well as I used to," the 81-year-old told the crowd.
As part of his remarks, he took a shot at his opponent, Trump, who has been accused of lying to the voters on a number of things in recent months.
Biden added, "But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. "I know right from wrong,"
The President Brands Donald Trump A 'Genuine Threat'
During his NC rally, Biden made sure to throw a direct jab at his political opponent, noting that Trump poses a "genuine threat" to America.
"He's a threat to our freedom. He's a threat to our democracy. Is literally a threat to everything America stands for," he added.
The incumbent then urged voters to choose him, promising to uphold the virtues of democracy, which he believes Trump seeks to destroy if he gets reelected in November.
Biden continued, "The choice in this election is simple: Donald Trump will destroy democracy; I will defend it."
