Chris Cuomo Shares Brutally Honest Opinion On 2024 Presidential Debate

The 2024 Presidential debate did very little to eliminate fear among Americans. President Joe Biden, 81, trailed off, seemingly forgetting what he was saying on multiple occasions, and former President Donald Trump, 78, reiterated false statements to defend himself.
Following CNN's live coverage of the 90-minute event, numerous political figures, including NewsNation's Chris Cuomo, offered their perspectives on the debate.
What Happened Between Joe Biden And Donald Trump?
To kick off the 2024 Presidential debate, Joe Biden appeared to stutter as he began by saying, "making sure we make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the COVID, excuse me, with, um, dealing with everything we had to do with" — however, he then paused momentarily.
A few seconds later, he finally said, "Look, we finally beat Medicare."
Trump then bashed the President, saying, "I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don't think he knows what he said, either."
The former president later added, "Well, he's right. He did beat Medicare. He beat it to death, and he's destroying Medicare because all of these people who are coming in, they're putting them on Medicare."
The two later argued about golf rather than speaking on the ongoing issues in America.
Chris Cuomo Weighs In On The 2024 Presidential Debate
Following the debate, NewsNation journalist Chris Cuomo commented on what happened and shared his take on the event.
"The bar has gotten so low that my hope is that for all you guys at home who are watching this," Cuomo said. "You saw a guy who's a sick man, and you saw a guy who's arguably a bad man on the stage at the same time and I really hope the conclusion is a resounding 'We have to do better than this.'"
"These two men are an embarrassment to the United States of America. That debate was an embarrassment," he added. "I actually felt bad for the moderators. I don't even know what there was to follow up on. They weren't making any sense, Trump too. When he's not making things up; he's making things worse. He didn't say a single positive thing about the United States of America except that he's great the whole night."
"And Biden is clearly past it," he concluded.
Do Americans Agree With Chris Cuomo?
The video gained over 21,000 comments, with several Americans also voicing their concerns with the two Presidential candidates.
"I completely agree with you. But I am still voting for Biden," one individual confessed. "Not the ideal choice, but it is safer for our democracy.
"Biden, whatever people say, kept it factual about what he did," another claimed. "Trump dodged questions."
For those who didn't tune in, Biden trailed off several times during the debate, and the former President made inaccurate statements about certain subjects.
Americans Are 'Terrified' For The Country Following 2024 Presidential Debate
Hundreds of others chimed in after watching the debate, expressing their fear for the future of the United States.
"The whole thing was just depressing !!! There is no bar !!! I’m terrified for our country," one individual said.
"I don’t like [Cuomo] but I agree with this. Very embarrassing, I keep asking myself how we got here," another questioned.
A third suggested, "We need a do-over and pick new candidates."
Other Political Figures Weigh In On The Debate
Chris Cuomo was not the only one to speak out about the 2024 Presidential debate on Thursday.
Symone Sanders, a former aide to Vice President Kamala Harris, addressed the claims that Joe Biden should step aside following his concerning performance. “Folks, the facts are if Joe Biden was going to step aside, he would have done so a long time ago,” she said, per The New York Times. “That’s not my opinion, that’s literally the facts. So no, he won’t be stepping aside tomorrow morning."
"He’s the nominee, and a number of Dems I suspect will be out defending him over the next few days," she added.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California also spoke out, insisting that he "would never turn [his] back on President Biden’s record" and that he "doesn't know a Democrat in [his] party who would do so, especially after tonight.”
Thursday's debate is not the only time Americans will watch Biden and Trump go head-to-head. ABC News will host the second debate on Tuesday, September 10, at 9 p.m. ET.
