Following a keenly contested debate between the two leading contenders for the US presidency, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, poll results show that viewers believe the Republican party's presumptive nominee won by a huge margin.

The contest, which CNN hosted, left the majority of viewers feeling that former Trump outperformed Biden in the highly charged encounter.

Joe Biden's performance has left the Democrats in "aggressive panic" after he appeared to lose his train of thought for a few seconds and mumbled up words while speaking of his achievements in office.

According to a CNN poll of debate watchers conducted by SSRS, registered voters who watched Trump and Biden go head-to-head in their first presidential debate believe the former president outperformed the incumbent.

However, the majority who watched the debate said it had little or no effect on their decision about who to support.

The poll's findings suggest that 63% of debate watchers think Trump performed better, compared to 37% who thought otherwise. 96% of GOP debate watchers shared that Trump did a better job in the debate, while 69% of Democratic debate watchers think Biden won.

According to the news outlet, participants in the polls tended more towards GOP sentiments and, as a result, found they were 5 points likelier to be Republican-aligned than Democratic-aligned. Hence, the result isn't a comprehensive representation of the voting public along different political divides.

Trump's performance in the debate seemingly got the approval of more debate watchers, with 48% noting they would vote for the presumptive Republican party nominee, while 40% said they'd only consider Biden. Two percent (2%) of them said they were considering both candidates, while 11% shared that they weren't considering either of them.

A major eyecatcher came as 57% of debate watchers said they have no confidence in Biden's ability to rule the country, while 44% said the same of Trump.

On the issue of immigration, 55% of debate watchers favored Trump's projected handling, and over 27% went for Biden. The billionaire politician also scored a winner in the sectors of the economy and foreign policy, as 56% went in favor of him for the economy against 31% who went with Biden, while 47% gave him the advantage on foreign policy over 35% who supported his rival.

The democratic candidate left many puzzled by his underwhelming performance at the recently held debate. He appeared to lose his train of thought for a few seconds and spoke incoherently.

The 81-year-old politician also didn't sound convincing enough, speaking in a soft, shaky voice that, according to the New York Post, was caused by a cold he suffered while preparing for the debate.

In one video making the rounds on social media, Biden appeared to stutter as he said he was committed to "making sure we make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the COVID, excuse me, with, umm dealing with everything we had to do with" — before pausing momentarily.

He broke the silence a few seconds later, saying, "Look, we finally beat Medicare."

Although the presidential debate started with issues related to their time in office, the pair quickly began taking personal shots at each other.

Biden, who called Trump a "convicted felon," claimed that he has "the morals of an alley cat" while bringing up the several allegations and court cases against the former president.

He said, "The crimes you are still charged with... How many billions of dollars do you owe in civil penalties for molesting a woman in public, for doing a whole range of things, for having sex with a porn star on the night your wife was pregnant. You have the morals of an alley cat."

Trump didn't seem fazed by Biden's remark as he replied that he "didn't have sex with a porn star."
