Charli XCX has taken a stance against a controversial chant at her concerts. The singer and songwriter took to social media to express her disapproval of fans chanting, "Taylor Swift is dead," at her shows.
It comes as Taylor Swift came under fire in recent weeks from fans for allegedly blocking other albums from earning the number one spot on top music charts by releasing new versions of "The Tortured Poets Department" album.
Since the release of her eleventh studio album, Taylor Swift has maintained the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Charli XCX Frowns On 'Taylor Swift Is Dead' Chant At Her Shows
The "Brat" singer took to her Instagram story on Monday to firmly rebuke the demeaning remark some fans chant during her shows.
"Can the people who do this please stop[?]" she wrote on her Instagram Stories. "Online or at my shows. It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. I will not tolerate it."
In recent weeks, people have accused Swift of blocking other albums, like Chari's "Brat" or Billie Eilish's "Hit Me Hard and Soft," from hitting the number one spot on the top musical charts by releasing new versions of her "The Tortured Poets Department" album.
This has led many to criticize the "Style" singer, with many claiming that her actions are intentional.
Charli XCX And Taylor Swift's Relationship
Charli's relationship with Swift has been cordial, and the pair have had no public beefs or fallouts.
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, fans have suggested that Charli's song "Sympathy Is a Knife" may have referenced the "Bad Blood" singer.
The 31-year-old singer is engaged to The 1975 drummer George Daniel, and Swift briefly dated the band's frontman Matty Healy last year.
In the song, Charli describes a woman who "taps into [her] insecurities."
"Don't know if it's real or if I'm spiraling… One voice tells me that they laugh. George says I'm just paranoid… Don't wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend's show. Fingers crossed behind my back. I hope they break up quick," Charli sings.
The Cambridge-born singer was a supporting act for Swift's 2018 Reputation Tour alongside Camila Cabello.
The following year, she told Pitchfork she was "really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to five-year-olds."
Billie Eilish Got Dragged By Taylor Swift Fans
Eilish is one of the singers Swift has been accused of preventing from reaching the top of the album charts.
In a Billboard interview, Eilish slammed the now-common practice of unnamed "big artists" releasing multiple versions of their albums but was forced to clarify what she meant after Swift's fans criticized her for allegedly shading the "Shake It Off" singer.
At the time, Eilish took to her Instagram Stories to set the records straight, offering a statement in her defense while also tagging her Billboard interview.
"Okay, so it would be so awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what I said in that billboard article," she wrote.
"I wasn't singling anyone out; these are industry-wide systemic issues," she explained.
The "Bad Guy" singer also admitted that she was guilty of the same thing to encourage fans to buy the same album multiple times, though it wasn't clear if she makes those decisions or if her record label has the final say over releases.
"[And] when it comes to variants, so many artists release them—including ME! which I clearly state in the article," she continued.
"The climate crisis is now and it's about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better sheesh," Eilish concluded.
Dave Grohl Implies Taylor Swift Does Not 'Play Live'
It's been a non-ending spate of controversy for the pop princess, who was recently forced to defend her craft after Dave Grohl alleged that she doesn't perform live.
Swift is currently on the European leg of her Eras Tour and made a 3-legged performance in the sold-out Wembley Stadium.
However, while playing his gig in London on Saturday, Grohl implied that Swift doesn't perform live on her Eras Tour and quipped that his tour was the "Errors" tour.
He remarked that his band "actually plays live" and commended the crowd for attending his show.
"Just saying. You guys like raw live rock 'n' roll music, right?" he said to the cheering audience. "You came to the right f-cking place!"
Taylor Swift Subtly Responds To Dave Grohl
Swift clapped back at the Foo Fighters frontman last night. She introduced her band to the crowd and pointed out that they would be playing "live" for three and a half hours.
"What you just did is an unforgettable moment in not just my life, but every very single one of our crew," Swift told the crowd, pointing to her crew members. "The band that's going to be playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight."
"They deserve this so much, and so does every one of my fellow performers, and you just gave that to us so generously. We'll never forget it," she added.
